Manchester United Star Out for the Rest of the Season

Manchester United

Manchester United have been dealt a significant blow with Amad Diallo ruled out for the remainder of the season after sustaining an ankle injury in training earlier this week.

The Ivorian winger, who has been a standout performer under Rúben Amorim, has been one of United’s most in-form players since the Portuguese manager’s arrival in November 2024.

His hat-trick in a comeback win over Southampton and his equaliser, and overall performance, away to Liverpool in January have made Diallo one of the first names on the team sheet.

The news of Diallo’s injury will add to Amorim’s selection headache with fellow youngsters Kobbie Mainoo, Manuel Ugarte and Tony Collyer all injured for United’s crucial league clash against Tottenham.

Amorim is likely to turn to veteran midfielders Christian Eriksen and Casemiro for the game in London. Although teenager Jack Moorhouse has travelled and could be in the squad for the first time.

Ten current first team players are out with injuries including defender Lisandro Martínez who underwent surgery earlier this week following an ACL tear against Crystal Palace last time out in the league.

Diallo currently tops the goal-scorer and assist rankings at United registering six of each in all competitions. His injury will potentially leave the Red Devils without any real firepower as we enter the final stretch of the season.

The struggles continue at United

The post-Ferguson era continues to spiral downwards for United fans with the club currently sat in 13th and on track for their worst ever finish in the league, a record set last season at 8th with Erik Ten Hag.

Rúben Amorim has brought improvements since his appointment but this season has quickly become another transitional campaign for the Red Devils.

Amorim’s style isn’t suited to some of the older names in the squad like Casemiro and Eriksen who might have to play against Tottenham on Sunday as a result of the injury crisis that has befallen the team.

United are also lacking depth on the wings with Diallo’s injury and the departures of Marcus Rashford and Antony on loan to Aston Villa and Real Betis respectively.

Sunday’s meeting against Tottenham will see both clubs having to play makeshift teams with injury crisis striking both sides. However, Spurs have received a boost with the return of goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, left-back Destiny Udogie, and England international James Maddison all likely for the game against United.

Recent poor results currently leave Tottenham in 14th, just two points behind United who they could leapfrog on Sunday. However, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou will know his job is hanging by a thread as he prepares to host United.
