Manchester United have joined the race for a new striker, with Brentford, Southampton, Borussia Dortmund and Burnley all in the race for the £15m rated teenager.
The Red Devils have found their hunt for a new number nine tough. They lost out on Viktor Gyokeres to Arsenal and Liam Delap to Chelsea and have been linked to others.
They are keen on adding Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins to their squad, and they could move for Benjamin Sesko.
However, after taking Brentford’s Bryan Mbuemo, they could now face competition from the Bees for a fresh target.
Brentford Battle Manchester United, Southampton, Borussia Dortmund and Burnley for Metz Striker
Brentford are keen on adding Idrissa Gueye from Metz after losing two of their most prolific forward options. They had been confident of his signature, with only Southampton in the race but have now been faced with fresh competition.
Borussia Dortmund’s inclusion has pushed up the price tag to £15m, which will have to be matched to win the race. Whilst Manchester United are eyeing the player as a long term developmental option.
Burnley have come into the race late, but are ready to compete this summer according to Alan Nixon (paywall).
The Bees are still the frontrunners but the added pressure could make a deal more difficult.
Brentford Premier League Pressure
Brentford have been an established and solid Premier League side for some time now. However, the loss of manager Thomas Frank as well as some of their star players could cause issues this season. The club are known for identifying talents and nurturing them into key players but that does take time. Without the guidance of Frank, it remains to be seen if Keith Andrews and co can continue their success.
Premier League clubs are spending big this summer, with records tumbling and it could prove more difficult to compete.
