Manchester United target Matheus Cunha reportedly wants to join the Red Devils in the upcoming window.

United seem to be leading the race to sign the Brazilian, with Cunha wanting to join Ruben Amorim’s side.

Cunha signed a new contract with Wolverhampton Wanderers back in January, but the forward could be on his way out in the summer.

Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United and Arsenal have all registered an interest in the forward, but it seems his preferred destination is Old Trafford.

This is according to TalkSport, who also reported that it would not be a problem for Cunha if United missed out on the Champions League.

How has Cunha fared this season?

Cunha has been crucial for Wolves this campaign and has helped drag them away from any potential relegation threat.

The Brazilian has been a key player under both previous manager Gary O’Neil and the current Vitor Pereira.

Cunha has made 28 appearances in the Premier League this season, scoring 14 and claiming four assists.

The forward scored in both games in the FA Cup but could not make an impact for Wolves in their Carabao Cup match as they lost to Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2.

Overall, Cunha has played 31 times in all competitions for Wolves this season, scoring 16 and assisting four, playing a key role in his side avoiding any potential relegation fight.

The Cunha situation.

According to TalkSport, Cunha wants to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Cunha has had interest from other Premier League clubs, such as Forest, Newcastle and Arsenal, but the Brazilian prefers a move to Old Trafford.

Cunha signed a new deal for Wolves in January until 2029, with a release clause worth £62.5 million.

Although he signed a new deal for Wolves, the forward said in an interview with the Guardian that he needs to take the next step in his career.

Is this a good signing for United?

It has been a disappointing campaign for United, with their only hope of success now relying on winning the Europa League.

They currently sit 14th in the league and are joint on points with Wolves and Everton (38), winning 10 games out of 33.

Their current top scorer in the league is Bruno Fernandes, with eight, while strikers Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have a combined six goals.

Bringing in an attacker like Cunha may be what United need, and the Brazilian could be a good signing for Amorim’s side.

Cunha has shown his quality over the last two seasons at the Molinuex and has proven he can play in the premier league. Since signing for Wolves, Cunha has scored 28 and assisted 11 in 77 matches in the league.

The forward has also shown that he can be versatile, playing both as a striker and an attacking midfielder, as well as the odd game on the flanks.

This versatility could be useful under a manager like Amorim, who has often changed his attacking options at United.

While Cunha’s release clause of £62.5 million may be seen as a risk by United, they may need to consider bringing in a player who has shown his ability and talent in the Premier League.

United’s forwards have struggled this season, and bringing someone in who has shown he can score and create chances may be what United need to push back up the table.

It will be interesting to see if Manchester United move in on Matheus Cunha this summer and if they will pay the full release clause for him.
