Manchester United Boost in Pursuit of Top Transfer Target

Manchester United

Manchester United have been handed a boost in the pursuit of their top transfer target, Victor Osimhen, this summer.

Change is likely to come in abundance at Old Trafford this summer after the events of this season. Ruben Amorim’s Red Devils have been miserable this season, suffering 13 defeats in the top flight while recording 10 victories. Manchester United have failed to register consecutive wins in the league this campaign.

Attacking output has been one of the major concerns for the side this season. United have failed to score in 13 league games this season. The need for a top striker has been highlighted, and Amorim has his eyes set on Victor Osimhen as a priority target this summer.

The Nigerian was one of the top stories in last summer’s transfer window, with multiple Premier League clubs touted as destinations for the forward. After nearly signing for Chelsea last summer, the striker was exiled from Napoli, who loaned him out to Turkish side Galatasaray.

Manchester United boosted as rivals drop out of the race

United were not the only side in the English top flight chasing a deal for the Nigerian international. Teams will be looking at the upcoming window, which opens earlier, and according to TeamTalk, Napoli are prepared to offer a discount to United to eliminate rivals from signing their hitman. This summer window opens earlier on June 1st, giving clubs less time to prepare once the season ends.

Victor Osimhen is a priority on United’s four-man wishlist for a striker, along with Viktor Gyokeres and Hugo Ekitike. Swedish hitman Gyokeres may have a connection to Ruben Amorim, but Premier League rivals Chelsea are working on a deal for him instead of making another attempt for Osimhen.

Napoli’s league rivals, Juventus, are said to be keen on the Nigerian forward, with rumours that Randal Kolo Muani will not make his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain permanent. However, it is said that Antonio Conte’s side is willing to discount the price for Manchester United to avoid a sale to domestic rivals. Osimhen is also said to prefer a move to the Premier League.

Manchester United’s urgent need for a striker

A desperate overhaul is needed in Manchester United’s squad to suit the style of play that Ruben Amorim is trying to implement at Old Trafford. The Red Devils may have spent an excess of €100 million to bring in Joshua Zirkzee and Rasmus Hojlund to the club, but both have disappointed since their move and could make an exit this season.

A top striker like Osimhen is required when looking at the output for United this season. The Red Devils are the sixth-lowest scoring side in the top flight this campaign, with 31 league goals. Their scoring capability has been on display on occasion, a 7-0 victory over Barnsley in the Carabao Cup being one example.

Bruno Fernandes leads the line with scoring numbers in the Premier League this season, but no Manchester United player has hit double figures for goals in league football. One reason for the disappointment of Hojlund’s signing has been his 15-match run before his first league goal for the team in 19 shots. The Danish striker took 21 games to score his first goal in the league this season.

While there is no doubt about Oshimen’s ability, one concern could be how he tried to force a move from Italy last summer, which led to his loan move to Galatasaray after a move to Saudi Arabia also fell through.
