Premier League side Aston Villa have rejected an official offer from Manchester United for goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez.

The Red Devils have been keen to add a goalkeeper to their squad after Andre Onana struggled last season.

Martinez has been linked to a move for some time, with the player keen on a move to Old Trafford.

They have also looked at other potential transfer options, such as Victor John and Senne Lammens. However, limited funds have caused issues with moving for a player straight away.

With Andre Onana injured until the season starts, it is unlikely the club will be able to offload him and recoup the much needed funds to sign a replacement.

Aston Villa Reject Official Approach from Manchester United for Martinez

Manchester United have now officially made the opening move for Emiliano Martinez, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano. However, they have requested a loan deal rather than a permanent transfer.

This has been rejected outright by the Premier League side with only a permanent deal with a “high fee” considered to let him leave.

With a striker still a priority for Ruben Amorim and limited funds, it is uncertain whether they will return with an firm offer.

They could move for a younger option such as Senne Lammens with the view of developing his talent.

Their future activity will largely been dependant on the sales of Sancho, Antony, Garnacho and Malacia. If they can bring in enough to sign a striker, and a goalkeeper then a move becomes a serious prospect.

Martinez Hoping for Manchester United

It has been no secret that Martinez has been hoping for a move to Manchester United. But with the Red Devils pursuing both Ollie Watkins and Martinez, Villa will hold all the cards.

Unlike Gyokeres, there does not seem to be any suggestion of a player strike, with Martinez maintaining his professionalism.

Whether he gets his dream move or not will come down to finances.
