Mansfield Town Forward Set For Permanent Exit

Mansfield Town forward James Gale is the subject of a plethora of permanent National League offers, heading into the summer transfer window.

Gale spent the entirety of the 2024/25 campaign on loan in the National League with Solihull Moors and Boston United, playing an integral role with the latter as he helped to pull off the greatest escape in English football last season.

The summer transfer window is currently open for the next few days, before briefly closing due to the Club World Cup, before reopening up until September.

Mansfield’s Gale subject of several contract offers

As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, Mansfield’s James Gale has received permanent contract offers from four current National League sides, ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

The clubs that have offered Gale a permanent contract are; Yeovil Town, Gateshead, Altrincham and Aldershot Town.

Gale is under contract at Mansfield Town heading into next season, which suggests that either he has a release clause that teams have met or he will be allowed to depart on a free transfer (or close to) this summer.

How did he fare last season?

The 23-year-old began the 2024/25 season on loan with Solihull Moors, with the hope of getting the club into the EFL having lost the play-off final weeks prior.

However, he sustained a couple of injuries which prevented Gale from building the momentum and consistency that he needed in order to make a successful stint with the club.

In total, Gale made 16 appearances across all competitions for Andy Whing’s side, scoring three goals and providing two additional assists.

After a couple of weeks back at Mansfield, Gale was loaned back out to Boston United to try and pull off the great escape.

He made an additional 21 appearances for Graham Coughlan’s side, scoring two goals and providing an assist as the club survived.

Which destination would be best for Gale?

There are four offers on the table for Gale currently and each of those presents different options for the forward.

Aldershot Town have released forward Kai Corbett, who was initially deemed as the replacement for Lorent Tolaj. They don’t currently have a striker contracted to the club for next season.

Altrincham have just lost top-scorer Regan Linney to Carlisle United and are in desperate need of at least one new striker this summer to try and fill the void.

Gateshead are arguably still yet to replace January departure Owen Oseni and are also struggling with an off-field situation, which could rule them out.

Meanwhile, Yeovil have options already at their disposal but have just been taken over and are likely to want to push towards the play-off places this upcoming campaign.

On paper, Aldershot are desperate for a striker, whilst Altrincham need a goal-scorer with Linney’s departure. Arguably, any of the four options would be sensible for Gale.
