Mansfield Town are reportedly set to lose one of their players before Friday’s transfer deadline, after a move has been agreed with a League Two side.
The Stags suffered a heavy 4-1 loss to Mansfield Town at the weekend and have conceded seven goals in the last two games, following on from their opening day victory against Barnsley.
Currently, Mansfield find themselves 15th in the League One standings having taken four points from their three league games, although the player in question has been handed just 15 minutes of league football so far this season.
Swan set to leave Mansfield
As reported by journalist Pete O’Rourke, MK Dons have agreed a deal with Mansfield Town to sign forward Will Swan before the transfer window closes on Friday evening.
There has been no confirmation as to whether the move is a temporary switch to given Swan game time or whether he is making a permanent exit from Mansfield Town due to falling down the pecking order.
How did he fare last season?
The 23-year-old had a successful 2022/23 campaign with Mansfield Town and signed a permanent deal last summer before helping the club to promotion to League One.
Swan made 42 appearances in all competitions for Mansfield Town last season, scoring ten goals in total as well as six additional assists.
However, Swan missed both of Mansfield’s final matches of the season and started just one of his last three, which came during the 4-1 win against MK Dons to all but seal their promotion.
He started Mansfield’s 2-0 EFL Cup defeat against Rotherham United last week, whilst featuring in the final 15 minutes during a 3-3 draw against Burton Albion.
Why would Mansfield allow Swan to depart?
Though there is no official confirmation on the reasoning behind Swan’s impending exit, it does lead to speculation as to why he’s been allowed to leave.
Mansfield have already allowed James Gale to depart this summer, with the forward signing for National League side Solihull Moors.
Nigel Clough’s side have brought in the likes of Sheffield Wednesday’s Lee Gregory and Newport County’s Will Evans, which has likely seen Swan drop down the pecking order despite heavily featuring last season.
Swan is expected to sign for Mike Williamson’s MK Dons before the transfer window closes later this week.
