Aston Villa are considering a loan move for out-of-favour Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford who hasn’t been included in a matchday squad for 12 games.

The 27-year-old had been linked with potential moves to Borussia Dortmund or Barcelona, although a move to Spain would be unlikley with the club struggling to meet Financial Fair Play regulations.

A move to Villa Park would see him link up with Unai Emery’s Champions League-chasing squad, an upgrade from Manchester United’s prospects in the Europa League, and  potentially offering him a fresh start.

For Aston Villa, the move would be crucial to strengthening their forward options as they seek to push for a top four finish and go deep into the Champions League, but aslo following the imminent departure of Jhon Duran to Al-Nassr for £64.5 plus add-ons.

However, the Villains will be encoruaged by Unai Emery’s confirmation that Ollie Watkins has told him we wants to stay at the Midlands club, despite interest from his boyhood team – Arsenal.

Rashford: Rise and Struggles

Rashford exploded on to the scene back in 2016 under Louis Van Gaal, scoring on his Europa League and Premier League debuts as well as scoring the winner in his first Manchester Derby.

However the revolving door of managers at Manchester United, eight in nine years including interims, since his breakout season has season Rashford struggling for consistency. The deabte often flows around whether he is a true central striker or more of a left winger.

The forward has won 60 senior caps for England scoring 17 goals and representing his nation at four major tournemounts. However he was left out of Gareth Soutgate’s Euro 2024 squad with his form being cited as the reason for his exclusion.

This season, Rashford has made 24 appearances for United, scoring seven goals and providing four assists. However, he has not played since the club’s 2-1 away win against Viktoria Plzeň in the Europa League.

New United boss Rúben Amorim has been unimpressed with Rashford’s recent performances, publicly stating that if the forward wants to play for Manchester United again, he must “change his standards” and improve.

With a potential exit on the cards, Villa may offer Rashford the perfect opportunity to rebuild his confidence and rediscover his best form in a fresh environment.
