Championship side Middlesbrough are monitoring a potential move for League One Peterborough United forward Ricky-Jade Jones ahead of a potential summer move.
Jones has been a key player for the Posh this season making 37 appearances and hitting the net 13 times for Darren Ferguson’s side.
The 22-year-old is known for his remarkable pace and understandably has caught the eye of a number of EFL teams this season with Cardiff City, Sheffield United and Norwich all reportedly interested in signing the youngster.
Football League World, have suggested that he could be a target after the season ends.
A man in demand
His contract with the League One side runs out this summer with numerous clubs guaranteed to be interested in acquiring his services.
Having come through the youth ranks at the club, Jones has spent the whole of his senior career to date with the Posh.
Understandably having bagged eight goals for a struggling side he was always going to receive attention from other clubs but his focus is firmly on securing Peterborough’s league one status for another year.
They currently sit five points outside the relegation zone.
A move to Teeside
On transfer deadline day, Middlesbrough accepted a record fee of £22.5m for their striker and top-scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath to move to MLS side Atlanta United.
It’s a significant blow for the Teessiders, with the Ivorian international bringing much more to manager Michael Carrick’s side than just his goals.
The 26-year-old was excellent in the air despite his modest stature, whilst providing a constant threat in-behind with his blistering pace and acceleration.
However, they have moved quickly to replace Latte Lath by signing former Manchester City and Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho on loan from Sevilla until the end of the season, following the addition of Morgan Whittaker from Plymouth Argyle.
In the past Jones has been compared to Latte Lath as they possess similar qualities. For that reason alone, the Englishman’s possible move in the summer makes sense.
With Middlesbrough currently aiming to make the play-offs, there’s a possibility we could be seeing Jones line up in the Premier League next season.
