It’s been a chaotic window for Newcastle United. Anthony Elanga, Aaron Ramsdale, Malick Thiaw and Jacob Ramsey have all arrived at St James’ Park. However, that’s not been the talk of the town.
Star striker, Alexander Isak, has refused to play for the Magpies in a bid to force a move to Premier League champions, Liverpool. Newcastle have set an asking price of £150 million for the Swedish striker, who they signed in the summer of 2022 for £60 million from Real Sociedad. With Isak unwilling to play and the departure of Callum Wilson, the Toon are in the market for another striker.
Wolverhampton Wanderers Star Asks To Leave to join Newcastle United
According to David Ornstein, Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Jorgen Strand Larsen, has politely informed the club of his wish to move to Newcastle.
As previously reported, Newcastle have had a £50 million bid turned down by Wolves.
Wolves Chairman, Jeff Shi, has already told the Norwegian striker that the move is not possible this window, with the West Midlands club stance clear. Wolves will reject all offers for the 25 year old striker.
Newcastle have started the season off with one point from a possible six. An opening day, goalless draw at Villa Park was followed by a heartbreaking loss to Liverpool. It was 16 year old Rio Ngumoha’s strike that won the game in the 100th minute for the Reds. The Magpies had battled from two nil down to level the game in the 88th minute. Anthony Gordon’s red card ensured Eddie Howe’s men played the whole of the second half with 10 men. It was a heroic effort but showed clear signs that Newcastle desperately need a starting striker.
What Would Strand Larsen Bring To Newcastle?
With Strand Larsen’s six foot four inch frame, the Norwegian is a very similar profile to that of Alexander Isak. Therefore, Strand Larsen would fit straight in to the Newcastle side and style of play.
Comfortable with both feet and in the air, Strand Larsen is the full package. After scoring 14 times in the Premier League last season for a dire Wolves team, Eddie Howe and co will be wondering what the 25 year old can achieve in a much better side.
After last season’s fifth placed finish, Newcastle will be playing in this year’s Champions League. Therefore, it is an attractive place for Strand Larsen to play his football this season.
However, as previously mentioned, a deal is very difficult this window. With time running out for Newcastle and a desperate need for a striker, don’t be surprised if a £70 million plus bid comes in before next week’s deadline.
