Danish forward William Osula is reportedly close to sealing a loan move away from Newcastle United to join Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt
The Football Insider’s Pete O’Rourke is reporting that the deal will be a loan with a £30 million buy option, with both clubs optimistic that the deal can be completed before the end of Deadline Day.
Premier League rivals Aston Villa are also rumoured to have enquired about Osula’s availability, given their own goalscoring struggles. Villa are the only side yet to have scored in the league this season.
Osula has played in all three of Newcastle’s Premier League games so far in 25/26 and even scored in the Geordies’ 3-2 loss to Liverpool.
Speaking about Osula after the Liverpool game, his manager, Eddie Howe, said: “Regular football will be something he needs for his own career at some stage, but whether that’s now or in the future, who knows?”
Newcastle have had their own struggles up front this season, thanks to the drama surrounding Alexander Isak’s transfer speculation and Anthony Gordon’s red card suspension, which allowed Osula to start their away game at Leeds United. However, that game did end 0-0.
The Denmark under-21 international’s game time may also be limited after the big money arrival of Nick Woltemade from VFB Stuttgart in the last week of the window. The potential Deadline Day signing of Yoanne Wissa from Brentford will also reinforce Newcastle’s front line, opening the door to an Osula exit.
Osula joined Newcastle from Sheffield United in August 2024 for £10 million with £5million in add-ons and was on the bench for their Carabao Cup final win over Liverpool.
Newcastle United’s transfer struggles.
This summer window has been a difficult one for the Magpies.
Star striker Alexander Isak looks to be finally getting his move to Liverpool on deadline day after refusing to be part of Newcastle’s pre-season and then refusing to train with the squad.
The Geordies have also seen several big-name targets reject moves to the club, including Hugo Ekitike, who joined Liverpool from Osula’s new club, Frankfurt, earlier in the window. James Trafford also opted to return to Manchester City rather than swap Burnley for Newcastle.
Despite the rejections, Eddie Howe’s side has secured Under-21 Euros top scorer Nick Woltemade, Anthony Elanga, and Aaron Ramsdale.
Newcastle United will need to keep refreshing their squad if they are to continue their progress from recent years, and the Carabao Cup winners will need to move on from this summer’s disappointments if they want to win a trophy again this season.
