League One Northampton Town have secured the signing of a free agent following his release from Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

The Cobblers have made an average start to the League One season; they sit 15th on 10 points from seven games. However, despite conceding the joint second lowest amount of goals in the league, they have also struggled to score at the other end. Their return of just five goals puts them as the joint lowest scorers alongside Burton Albion, who have played a game less. They have still been picking up results, winning their previous three games to nil, but will be wanting to ensure that continues.

It is clear that they need more reinforcements in attacking areas. Currently Ethan Wheatley, on loan from Manchester United, Sam Hoskins and Tom Eaves are the club’s registered forwards but they have now added another name to the ranks.

Jack Vale Joins Northampton Town After Blackburn Rovers Departure

Vale, 24, has been training with the Cobblers for some time as he looks to maintain his fitness and earn a place in the club’s squad. The young forward has suffered a few reasonably disappointing loan spells in the last few years so his signing may not be seen as an obvious one.

His previous spell in League One with Lincoln City only returned a single goal in 17 league appearances. He also only returned three goals in 21 appearances for Motherwell over two spells and one goal in 12 for Halifax Town.

This is a player that clearly has talent but has been unable to show it at senior level so far. He has had to put his head down and earn his spot in the Northampton Town squad, and his manager clearly sees something to award him with a contract.

If the Cobblers can get him firing and maintain their resolute defence they will become a dangerous prospect in League One this season.
