Championship side Norwich City have walked away from a potential deal for Peterborough United’s Emmanuel Fernandez, despite submitting a “huge” bid, according to reports.
Reports linking the Canaries to the defender surfaced last week, with Posh boss Darren Ferguson confirming that there had been significant interest in one of their players and a “huge” bid had been submitted by an unnamed second tier side.
With the deadline fast approaching the Championship club have now opted to walk away from the deal, favouring a move for Brighton’s Ruairi McConville on a permanent deal, according to The Pink Un.
Ferguson had indicated that personal terms may have been an issue, but according to the report this was not the reason for the U-turn.
Peterborough United’s Relegation Battle
Peterborough United were one of the favourites for promotion this year, after consistently competing towards the top of the table for some time. They had long-standing boss Darren Ferguson at the helm and some star players such as Kwame Poku, but rather than a promotion push they have found themselves battling towards the relegation places.
With Burton Albion dramatically improving, Northampton getting a vital win and Bristol Rovers winning the six-pointer against Posh it has landed them in heaps of trouble going into the second half of the season. With the transfer window set to close this evening there has been very little in the way of significant improvements to the squad too, leaving Ferguson to fight with one hand tied behind his back.
There has been debate amongst many posh fans as to where the blame should lie, the chairman, the manager, the players but whatever happens, they need to resolve the issue quickly before they find themselves attempting to rectify the situation in the final few games.
