Norwich City Manager Favourite Eyes Opportunity

Norwich City

Norwich City finally parted company with Liam Manning yesterday after a poor start to the season. The club hadn’t recorded a victory in 11 games putting their Championship spell in danger.

Yesterday the early favourites for the role were revealed to be Brendan Rodgers, Michael Carrick, Russell Martin, Gary O’Neil and Michael Skubala. However, any hopes of signing the current favourite may have hit a bump in the road.

Rodgers has been out of work since leaving Celtic earlier this season and has been linked to several jobs since.

Rodgers Does Not Want to Stay in England

Brendan Rodgers, despite sitting as favourite for the Norwich City job, is not keen on another job in England, according to Alan Nixon. He would prefer a move to the Saudi Pro-Leagues as he looks for a bumper deal and the chance to manage some World Class players.

Whilst there was no firm links between Norwich and Rodgers, having the favourite ruled out so early will be a blow for a club in a serious crisis.

Other Options for Norwich City

Just solely based on the names that were classed as favourites yesterday, that would place Michael Carrick as the top option. Followed by Russell Martin, Gary O’Neil, Lincoln City’s Michael Skubala and sixth placed option Richie Wellens of Leyton Orient. However, it is unclear if any of these are firm options, with the process likely to take some time to get started.

Norwich will need a manager able to turn around the club’s form quickly, their status as a Championship club is already firmly at risk. With just under two months until the January window opens, and a busy festive period to come, action is required now. Otherwise they could be playing League One football next season.
