Nottingham Forest have reportedly made a shock late move for Liverpool goalkeeper Caiomhin Kelleher as they search for a new shot-stopper before the looming transfer deadline.
With less than 48 hours to go in the summer transfer window, clubs across England are searching for any signings they can make before the window slams shut.
Most teams are now likely very close to completing their squads for the upcoming season, with them needing just a couple more additions to assert that.
Goalkeeper is a notoriously difficult position to improve, with the best keepers already being tied down for this season.
Forest may have a solution to this, as an out-of-favour keeper in Merseyside could be coming to Nottingham soon.
Kelleher to Forest?
According to Alan Nixon, Nottingham Forest have made a shock late approach to Liverpool to sign goalkeeper Caiomhin Kelleher, with the Irishman being open to a move away from the Reds.
Kelleher knows his game time will be limited if he stays at Liverpool due to the excellence of Allison, and a move to another Premier League club could be the perfect opportunity for him to play.
The 25-year-old has spent his entire career at Liverpool but has never managed to establish himself as the number-one keeper.
Last season he made the most appearances in a season during his career so far, as injuries to Allison as well as being utilised in the Europa League and cup competitions meant he made 26 appearances for the Reds.
However, as he approaches the peak years of his career, he wants to be the starting keeper going forward, and this will not be the case if he stays with Liverpool.
Should he Make the Move?
A change of scenery could be perfect for the Irishman, as it will finally allow him to become a starter for another side.
He will have been wanting to start for a long time now and Nottingham Forest will allow him to become their starting keeper for the upcoming season.
It will certainly be a tough decision for Kelleher if he is to leave the Reds, but it could be one he needs to make for the advancement of his career.
