Notts County are reportedly keen to sign Morecambe midfielder Jake Taylor this summer, but face competition from a rival League Two club, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The 25-year-old is out of contract this summer, following the conclusion of the 2023/24 League Two season and is one of a number of players who is free to leave the club due to the latest off-field issue with wages.

How has he faired this season?

Taylor arrived at Morecambe from League One side Port Vale in July 2022 and has remained ever-present with the club, with the Magpies reportedly holding a long-term interest in the player.

In all competitions this season, Taylor has made 32 appearances for the football club, contributing to one goal which came during a 2-2 draw against Swindon Town in League Two earlier in the campaign.

However, with his contract at an end, there is an expectation that he could be set to leave the football club in the coming weeks.

Who else is interested?

According to journalist Alan Nixon, Notts County have a long-standing interest in the 25-year-old and is keen to bring him to Meadow Lane ahead of the 2024/25 League Two campaign.

However, the Magpies face competition from fellow League Two side Walsall who fell just short of a play-off place following their heavy 5-1 defeat against AFC Wimbledon on the final day of the campaign.

Why would Notts County want him?

With experienced midfielder Jim O’Brien out of contract, Notts County are likely to be in the market for at least one central midfielder during the upcoming transfer window.

Walsall signed Tamworth’s Jamie Jellis in January which could boost Notts County’s chances of landing Taylor ahead of their League Two rivals in the coming weeks.

After a frustrating end to the season, Stuart Maynard’s side appears to be keen to regroup and get their squad ready ahead of a promotion push next season.
