Notts County confirm the signing of Fulham goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond on loan.

League Two side Notts County have agreed a deal with Fulham for a loan lasting until the end of the season for goalkeeper Luca Ashby-Hammond.

The side has already faced Ashby-Hammond twice this season due to his time at Crawley Town, Notts County triumphed both times, scoring three in both fixtures.

Ashby-Hammond has been brought in to provide “strong competition for the number one shirt” due to senior goalkeeper Sam Slocombe recovering from injury and youth academy graduate Tiernan Brooks having hopes of being loaned out again after his recent move to Cork City was disrupted by injury.

Ashby-Hammond comes off the back of half a season with League Two side Crawley Town and, despite mostly being a backup option on the bench, he made 11 appearances overall, conceding 20 goals in the process and keeping a singular clean sheet for the Red Devils.

Notts County’s Head of Goalkeeping, Tom Weal said that with Crawley playing in a “similar way” to Notts County, he’s “very familiar with what we would expect from a goalkeeper and I’m really looking forward to working with him”.

Notts County currently sit in 6th place in League Two after being promoted from the National League last season but have the 3rd worst goals conceded tally in the league, conceding 47 goals in 26 games.

The 22-year-old has experience playing in the England academies and was part of the Aldershot side last season, playing in 45 matches and keeping eight clean sheets, helping Aldershot stay up and finish in 18th place.

Notts County have a pedigree of a player on their hands with excellent experiences at a plethora of different levels, from a Premier League and International setup to the National League and League Two, gaining quality experience for this level.

He is known to be good with his feet with strong distribution which will really complement the possession based football played at Notts County.

His ability on the ball is likely the strongest attribute he had which interested the Magpies and it will be interesting to see how this plays out when Slocombe is back to full fitness and Notts have three senior goalkeepers fighting for the No. 1 shirt.
