Oldham Athletic have completed the signing of Port Vale midfielder Tom Conlon on a permanent deal, as confirmed via a statement on the club’s website.

The 27-year-old has struggled for game-time so far this season following a series of injuries and will now be in a bid to prove his fitness during the second half of the National League season.

In total, Conlon has made four appearances in all competitions so far this season but is yet to contribute to a goal or assist and has now departed Vale Park in favour of regular game-time for the National League promotion chasers.

Conlon began his youth career with Stoke City and Peterborough United before further spells with Stevenage. In July 2018, Conlon completed a permanent move to Port Vale and became a firm fan favourite for the football club. He’s made over 180 appearances for the club, helping them to achieve promotion to League One in the process.

The midfielder has signed an 18-month contract with the National League side after signing on a free transfer. Conlon links up with the likes of James Norwood and Charlie Raglan as they continue to battle their way towards the playoff places in the division.

Oldham Athletic currently sit sixth in the National League, two points clear within the playoff places as the club moves into the second half of the season. The side have lost just seven league games so far this season and have won four of their last five matches in the division.

Writer’s View

Tom Conlon is an outstanding midfielder and was tipped for a big move just a couple of seasons ago but has been by several injuries that have halted his career.

He is a solid addition for the National League side and is arguably too good for the division if he stays fit and he could play a major role in attempting to take the club back to the football league.
