The hunt to finish in the League One play-offs looks set to go down to the wire. Huddersfield Town and Reading are two teams sitting just out of the top six, but will they be competing in the play-offs come May?
The Terriers and Royals are among several recent Premier League teams now playing in the third tier.
Both have aspirations of getting promoted this season, and Opta’s supercomputer has predicted whether they will get promoted via the play-offs.
Huddersfield Town – Predicted 9th
Liam Manning’s side are sadly expected to miss out on the top six come the end of the season.
They are currently 7th, a point off 6th, but are predicted by Opta to finish 9th with 67.05 points. That figure will see them finish just over two points off Wycombe Wanderers in the final play-off spot.
Despite being expected to miss out, Opta has given them a 19.56% chance of getting voted via the play-offs.
Reading – Predicted 8th
Reading are also expected to miss out on the top six. They are currently in the same spot, two points off Wycombe, but with a game in hand.
Despite having that game in hand, Opta doesn’t think they will finish in the play-offs.
The Royals are predicted to finish with 68.42 points, but they have a 30.18% chance of being promoted via the play-offs.
Who Will Finish in the League One Play-Offs?
Currently, the play-off spots are occupied by Bolton Wanderers, Bradford City, Stockport County, and Wycombe Wanderers.
Opta predicts those teams will finish in the play-offs, and in the same order they are in now.
In terms of who will win the League One play-offs, Bolton are the clear favourites. They’ve been given a 92.94% chance of winning the play-offs.
The Bantams are next, with an 82.02% probability of going up via the play-offs.
While Stockport County and Wycombe have been given a 77.72% and 38.56% chance, respectively.
