Oxford United Defender Linked With League One Move

Leyton Orient are looking for a move to sign defender Jack Currie on loan from Oxford United, with the 22-year-old struggling to break into the side at the Kassam Stadium.

Richie Wellens’ side have been busy on deadline day today, as they look to turn their fortunes around in the league despite success in the Carabao Cup, reaching the third round with wins over Newport County and Millwall.

The club have already brought in one player on loan today, bringing in Josh Keeley from Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur, but they do not appear to be done before tonight’s window closing at 11pm.

Former Wimbledon man linked with Leyton Orient.

According to the South London Press, Currie has been linked with a move away from Oxford United on loan to Leyton Orient. Richie Wellens’s side are said to be keen on the defender, who has played at the level below with his previous club AFC Wimbledon.

The former Wimbledon man only joined up at the Kassam Stadium this summer after his contract with Wimbledon expired, but has not featured as part of Des Buckingham’s side with the Championship new boys as of yet.

Currie signing could be huge for Leyton Orient.

Bringing in the 22-year-old on loan could be a real coup for the League One side this window. The defender was one of Wimbledon’s most consistent performers in his two seasons in the fourth tier with the club, falling short of 100 appearances, and providing six goal contributions during his time there.

With Orient winless in all three league fixtures so far this campaign, this weekend’s clash with Shrewsbury Town is one that could already prove to be vital, as they meet a side sharing the same misfortune as themselves, with Wellens’ side only above the Shrews on goal difference. A deal on deadline day for Currie could see him go straight into the side and against a team like Shrewsbury, it could be the perfect opportunity to start a loan spell in order to impress his current employers, who it seems he has not done much to impress since joining.
