Peterborough United Duo Set For Exit

PETERBOROUGH UNITED

Peterborough United duo Kwame Poku and Hector Kyprianou have played their final matches for the League One side and will both depart on free transfers this summer.

The duo are out of contract at the end of the 2024/25 season and will leave the club once their deals expire, whilst subsequently missing their final match of the campaign against Rotherham United.

The news will come as a blow for Peterborough supporters knowing they won’t be able to say farewell to the duo who have been the epicentre of what’s been a successful few years for the League One side.

Peterborough duo set for exits

The news on Poku & Kyprianou’s impending exits from the League One side have came from BBC Radio Cambridgeshire host Benoit Stevenson.

He confirmed that both players won’t be featuring this weekend and due to their contract statuses, have played their final matches for the League One side.

Peterborough fans won’t be surprised to learn of the duos exits given their contract situations heading into this summer.

How have they fared this season?

Kyprianou is Peterborough’s captain and has made 40 appearances for the club in all competitions this season. During that time he has scored five goals and provided an additional assist which includes his superb strike against Birmingham City in the EFL Trophy final.

Meanwhile, Poku has featured 31 times for Peterborough this season, scoring 12 goals and providing 11 additional assists – which is made better when you remember that Poku missed several months of the season due to injury.

Will Peterborough make any money from them?

Both Poku and Kyprianou are free agents as it stands and the report also confirms that they won’t be staying put at Peterborough United this summer.

Usually with free agents, clubs losing the players won’t make any money on them because their contract has expired.

However, both Kyprianou and Poku will be the subject of a compensation fee. This is due to them already being offered a new deal (which he appears to have turned down) and being under the age of 24.

What this means is that whichever club signs the duo will need to agree a compensation fee with Peterborough United or be subject to a tribunal to decide what fee they will need to pay to the League One side.

Peterborough fans, what are your thoughts?
