Peterborough United are closing in on a deal to sign Crewe Alexandra defender Rio Adebisi after the two parties agreed on a fee.
The 23-year-old is a product of the Crewe Alexandra academy but looks destined to replace Harrison Burrows at the League One side, ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.
Adebisi had an impressive season last time out, helping the club to reach the play-off places before losing at Wembley Stadium to Crawley Town, denying them a place in the third tier.
How did Adebisi fare last season?
The full-back made an impressive 54 appearances for Crewe Alexandra in all competitions last season, playing an integral role in their push for promotion.
During that time, Adebisi scored four goals and provided an additional eight assists in all competitions, with 13 of those arriving in League Two.
However. it now appears that according to journalist Mike McGrath, Adebisi is set to sign for Peterborough United.
A Burrows replacement?
Fellow journalist Darren Witcoop has already reported that Championship side Sheffield United are keen to sign Peterborough’s Harrison Burrows, leaving a gap that the League One side need to fill.
Adebisi is an attacking left-back as demonstrated in his impressive goal return for Crewe Alexandra in League Two last season and looks destined to replace Burrows.
Is this a good deal for Peterborough?
Adebisi was one of the best-performing left-backs in League Two last season, zooming under the radar as a result of the form of Notts County’s Jodi Jones.
The full-back is only 23 and has already made over 100 first-team appearances throughout his career, with the previous campaign being his best to date.
Crewe Alexandra will be losing a crucial part of their almost successful squad last season but will likely receive a fee which could help them secure other players to strengthen their own season goals.
Meanwhile, Peterborough will be gaining another talented player to replace one of their own.
