Peterborough United have joined several EFL and Premier League clubs including Ipswich Town and Blackburn Rovers in the battle to land Rochdale defender George Nevett this summer, according to HITC.
The 18-year-old burst onto the scene for Jimmy McNulty’s side last season, featuring regularly in the National League and has attracted plenty of EFL and top-flight interest ahead of the opening of the summer transfer window.
How did Nevett fair last season?
Nevett featured for Rochdale in early August against Ebbsfleet United and grabbed his first goal contribution for the club shortly after.
In total, the Welshman made 34 league appearances for Rochdale in the fifth tier last season, starting all but two of those matches. During that time, Nevett provided one assist during a defeat against league champions Chesterfield in September.
He also broke into the Wales U19s side following the impressive nature of his performances for Rochdale. He managed an 89% pass completion rate throughout the season as well as 11.6 ball recoveries and 5.3 interceptions per 90 minutes.
Which sides are currently in the running to sign Nevett?
Currently, Peterborough United have joined six sides from divisions higher than League One in the race to sign the 18-year-old this summer.
Premier League trio Crystal Palace, Southampton and Ipswich Town have also been monitoring his progress whilst Blackburn Rovers, Millwall and QPR are also keeping close eyes on the defender.
This is likely to give Peterborough United a tough battle in their attempts to try and land the 18-year-old on a permanent deal this summer.
Would Peterborough be a good fit for Nevett?
Recent seasons have proven that Peterborough United have what it takes to develop non-League stars and turn them into significantly better footballers.
Previous examples of their work include Jack Taylor (Ipswich Town), Ephron Mason-Clark (Coventry City) and current defender Ronnie Edwards.
Nevett will be surrounded by players who have made similar journeys in their careers so far, as well as joining a side that are looking to build on last season after reaching the League One play-offs as well as winning the EFL Trophy.
