Peterborough United Seal Agreement With 21-Year-Old

Peterborough United have moved to secure the future of emerging forward Pemi Aderoju after handing the 21-year-old a new long-term contract.

The Nigerian attacker recently marked an important milestone in his career when he opened his scoring account for the League One side, and that breakthrough has now been followed by fresh terms at London Road.

Aderoju’s first senior goal for the club arrived during Peterborough’s emphatic 6-1 victory against Wigan Athletic, where he came off the bench and found the net shortly after entering the game. The moment represented a significant step forward for a player who has worked his way up through the club’s development structure.

His path to the first team has been gradual. After arriving at the club in early 2024 following a successful trial, the striker initially featured for the under-21 side while adapting to the demands of professional football. Since then he has begun to make appearances for the senior team, accumulating valuable minutes across multiple competitions.

Speaking after committing his future to the club, the forward highlighted the support he has received from staff and senior figures behind the scenes.

“A lot of hard work has gone into getting me where I am today and the manager, his assistant, Barry Fry and Darragh MacAnthony have showed a lot of faith in me and now it is about taking the opportunity I have been given.

“As a player, one of the most important things is having that backing of the management staff and knowing they want you to do well and believe you can do well. It gives you confidence, that trust is really key.”

Loans have also played a key role in his development. Temporary spells away from Peterborough allowed him to gain regular minutes and sharpen his attacking instincts, including a particularly productive period at Eastbourne Borough.

Loan spells add value

While playing in the National League South, Aderoju hit a remarkable run of form that saw him score 20 times in all competitions. Fifteen of those strikes came in league action, a tally that caught attention back at his parent club and prompted his recall during the winter.

Earlier experience at Boston United and Farnborough also contributed to his progress, giving him exposure to different playing styles and levels of competition.

The striker believes those moves were crucial to his improvement as a player.

“I want to continue to improve and develop over the next few years and hopefully build on what I have managed to do in my time at the club and out on-loan with Boston United and Eastbourne.

“Those loan spells have really helped me. I would have liked to have played more games at Boston United, but I learned a lot from my time there and obviously at Eastbourne I scored a lot of goals at a decent level and enjoyed my time there.”

Manager Luke Williams also welcomed the new agreement, pointing to the potential the club believes the forward possesses.

“Pemi has showed a lot of promise in the Under 21s and on-loan at Eastbourne and he has shown us some glimpses in the first team so we have high expectations for him and are delighted he has signed a new contract.”

Peterborough have developed a reputation for nurturing attacking talent, and Aderoju now has the chance to become the latest player to progress through their system into a regular senior option. After his first goal and a strong loan record lower down the pyramid, the new deal suggests the club believe his next step could arrive sooner rather than later.

From a wider perspective, tying down a young forward with proven scoring form outside the club represents sensible business for Peterborough. If his development continues on the same trajectory, Aderoju could yet become an important figure in their attacking plans over the coming seasons.
