Peterborough United endured a poor campaign in League One, and are now planning to re-establish themselves amongst the promotion hopefuls in the third tier next season.
Posh recently emerged as relegation candidates throughout the 2024-25 campaign, their only bottom-half finish in the division in the last nine divisions.
And having recently published their retained list, Peterborough will also go into next campaign without a number of their star players, with the likes of Kwame Poku, Hector Kyprianou and Ricky Jade-Jones choosing to depart at the end of their contracts.
This places a huge summer window in the hands of Darren Ferguson, if the Posh are to return to previous levels shown in League One next season.
Peterborough United Interested In Bristol Rovers’ Connor Taylor
Football League World have shared that Peterborough are set to target a move for Bristol Rovers defender, Connor Taylor, following the Gas’ relegation to League Two.
The 23-year-old remains under contract at The Memorial Stadium for another year but is bound to have offers after an impressive two seasons since joining the club from Stoke City.
Making 89 appearances in the South West since joining, at a young age Taylor has become an established figure in the team’s defence, and his assured performances will have attracted suitors elsewhere.
And a move for Taylor would be hugely fitting of the recruitment model enforced at Peterborough United, often opting to recruit young stars from the lower divisions, targeting potential sell-on value.
At the age of 23, the defender has vast experience under his belt and much room to develop his career in a better League One side.
Given Rovers were recently relegated from League One, this opens a route for Peterborough to move for the defender, offering the chance to remain in the division with the opportunity of a bigger move in the near future.
Recent history has made Peterborough an attractive stepping stone for developing players, with the likes of Ephron Mason-Clarke, Ivan Toney, and Ronnie Edwards gaining the platform for a bigger move at the club.
Therefore, this move presents attractive propositions for both the player and club.
Peterborough would be acquiring an established defender at the level, while Taylor would gain a fantastic opportunity to develop his career as a young player.
Not the only player under interest at Bristol Rovers
Following their relegation to League Two, Bristol Rovers will struggle to maintain their star players going into next season.
This comes alongside recent news, also reported by Football League World, that Kamil Conteh has admirers at Plymouth Argyle and Derby County – the midfielder has previously impressed at League Two level with Grimsby Town.
If the South West outfit are to make an immediate return to League One, Darrell Clarke will need assurance on the state of his squad going into the campaign, as the Pirates boast many players that could perform well in the fourth tier.
Therefore, clarity on the situations of Connor Taylor and Kamil Conteh will be necessary as the Gas approach pre-season, although it may be an uphill battle to keep the pair at the club.
