Peterborough United Target Set For Summer Exit

Peterborough United target Ethon Archer is set to complete a permanent exit away from League Two side Cheltenham Town, before the transfer window comes to an end on Monday.

The 23-year-old has been a regular feature for the Robins over the last two seasons, continuing to impress for the League Two outfit.

However, just days before the transfer window – Cheltenham fans are set to be hit with another bad point in what’s already been a tough start to the campaign.

Archer set for Cheltenham exit

As confirmed via journalist Jon Palmer, Cheltenham Town winger Ethon Archer is expected to leave the football club on a permanent deal before the transfer window comes to an end.

Archer has already been the subject of a failed bid by League One side Peterborough United, with Palmer already revealing weeks prior that Posh were expected to return with a new bid before the window came to an end.

There has been no confirmation that Archer is destined for Peterborough, the report only mentions ‘League One’ instead of a particular side.

How has he fared so far this season?

Archer burst onto the first-team scene at Cheltenham Town last season following their relegation from League One.

Across all competitions, the winger made 51 appearances for the Robins and managed to contribute to 13 goals including a goal and assist against Swindon Town in one of his standout matches.

This season, Archer has continued to feature for Cheltenham and hasn’t tried to force an exit from the club – instead valuing his contract and commitment to the club.

He’s featured eight times already this season for the Robins, though he hasn’t managed to contribute to a goal or assist thus far.

Could the side be Peterborough?

Peterborough United were expected to bid again for the 23-year-old this summer, but there is no formal confirmation that they have.

The League One side have lost the likes of Ricky Jade-Jones and Kwame Poku over the summer, losing some high quality from wide areas.

This has shown with their disappointing start to the season so far. Similarly, several players including fellow winger Chris Conn-Clarke were told to find new clubs, further suggesting the club are in the market for a winger before Monday’s deadline.

He fits Peterborough’s typical recruitment type and would add pace and flare that the side currently lack out wide, but whether he makes the move remains to be seen in the coming days.
