Lorent Tolaj could be joined by former teammate Ronan Curtis, with Plymouth Argyle prepared to bid for the Port Vale winger.

The Pilgrims have had a dour season, with the Swiss striker’s signing from Port Vale arguably the only bright spot up until recent results. In order to assist Tolaj, Tom Cleverley’s side have seemingly set their sights on one of his former peers.

Port Vale Raid On

According to Football League World, Plymouth are in talks with Port Vale over a transfer for Ronan Curtis, who has largely been deployed as a backup striker in Burslem this season.

Playing under Darren Moore with Tolaj, the pair were crucial in pushing the Valiants over the line to a second-placed finish in League Two and contributed to a combined 32 goals between them across the course of the last campaign.

However, with the former Salford City man moving to Home Park, things have unravelled in Staffordshire since, seeing Moore sacked and the club rooted to the foot of the League One table ahead of the FA Cup Third Round.

Curtis has found himself partnering Devante Cole and Jayden Stockley up front as a substitute and has failed to deliver when given chances, with four goals and assists in the third tier, three of which came on New Year’s Day in their demolition of Blackpool.

Now with Jon Brady at the helm, Vale face a big decision as to whether they move on the Irish midfielder, who still has eighteen months remaining on his contract when signed from AFC Wimbledon in 2024.

Should Port Vale Sell?

A big decision will have to be made before the end of the January window by the board at Vale Park, as to whether they will give Jon Brady the backing he needs to avoid the drop, or whether they hit the reset button for next season.

With 10 points and a game in hand separating them from Leyton Orient in 20th place, the early phase of the Australian’s tenure has to be strong in order to give them a fighting chance.

Selling Ronan Curtis could work in their favour for survival, raising funds from a player who has struggled to make it into Darren Moore’s plans for much of the campaign.

Plymouth’s successful shift into a 4-4-2 has worked wonders so far, putting them out of the relegation zone, and adding the former Wimbledon man as a wide option will give Tom Cleverley much-needed depth on top of a proven partner to Lorent Tolaj.

It is a move that makes sense for both parties, and a good investment of the funds could help Port Vale as they look to claw some ground back on the teams above them.
