Plymouth Argyle Man Set For Six-Figure Championship Move

Plymouth Argyle

Plymouth Argyle suffered relegation to League One on the final day of the Championship season and will now likely see a major squad overhaul as they prepare for life in the third tier.

The team rotated goalkeepers throughout the campaign, starting with Daniel Grimshaw in between the sticks but finishing with Conor Hazard as first choice when the latter returned from injury.

Former Manchester City Youth Prospect to Stay at Championship Level

27-year-old Grimshaw has accumulated 65 appearances in the second tier across spells at Blackpool and now Plymouth Argyle.

The former Man City academy product only moved to Argyle for a reported six-figure sum last summer.

He was drafted in to be the first-choice due to an injury to Conor Hazard, but his form fluctuated as Grimshaw failed to reach the levels he achieved while at Blackpool.

In truth, it was a difficult season for any player to impress as Argyle struggled from the outset and looked candidates for relegation from the early stages.

After 21 Championship starts for the club and just one clean sheet, it appears Grimshaw’s time at Home Park may be limited to just a single season.

Norwich City Close in on £600k Deal For Grimshaw

According to Anthony Joseph on X, the Canaries are closing in on a deal reported to be in the region of £600,000 to end Grimshaw’s time at Plymouth Argyle.

The same post indicates that a medical will be completed this week and that Norwich City are in the market for multiple keepers in the summer transfer window.

The Canaries finished in the bottom half of the table and struggled defensively in the second tier, conceding 68 goals in 46 matches.

After scoring 71 goals, it is clear that if the club are to have any chance of closing the gap on the playoff places, they have to improve defensively and there is an obvious strategy to improve in that area with the acquisition of multiple goalkeepers.

This deal is close, although personal terms are yet to be agreed.

Norwich City have to appoint a new manager, having parted with Johannes Thorup in April and appointed Jack Wilsher on an interim basis for the final two games of the season.
