Plymouth Argyle Reignite Burton Albion Striker Chase with Improved Bid

Plymouth Argyle have returned with an increased bid for Burton Albion forward Rumarn Burrell.

The new offer is believed to be in the region of £1m, as reported by Sky Sports Mark McAdam.

The EFL League One club has long been admirers of the 24-year-old, and Burrell is thought to be keen on the move to Home Park.

Plymouth Argyle Increase Bid for Rumarn Burrell

The Pilgrims have endured a turbulent summer off the field, which has included an unexpected managerial change and multiple player exits.

There have been numerous arrivals too, but Argyle are still short in the striking department following the departure of Ryan Hardie to Wrexham, and Mustapha Bundu to Hannover 96.

Their renewed interest in Burrell could see new head coach Tom Cleverley bolster his attacking options ahead of the new campaign.

Argyle have already brought in vastly experienced Jamie Paterson from Coventry City, and Owen Oseni from St Mirren in this window. They also secured the signing of 22-year-old striker Bim Pepple from Luton Town.

Tom Cleverley has recently spoken of his determination to bring in another experienced centre forward, as the former England international attempts to lead Argyle back to the Championship.

“We all want those deals to be done as quick as possible”

“There’s a premium price on League One strikers and people who can score goals at this level. We’re working really hard and I’m confident we’ll see one come in in the next 10 days.” Tom Cleverley to BBC Radio Devon

During his stint in East Staffordshire, Burrell has showcased the natural attacking instincts to suggest he would upgrade the Greens’ offensive weaponry.

How did he fare last season?

Burrell signed a three year deal with Burton Albion last summer, joining them from Scottish League One side Cove Rangers.

He went on to make 30 league appearances for the Brewers last term, where he netted 11 goals and recorded two assists.

He entered a significant purple patch at the turn of the new year, scoring 5 times in January alone. His rich vein of form saw him named League One Player of the Month for January.

His performances for Gary Bowyer’s team also saw him called up to the Jamaica national team for the first time in May.

Burrell has proven to be a prolific scorer in England’s third tier during his spell at the Pirelli Stadium, alerting the attention of Plymouth Argyle.

Burton Albion Face Burrell Decision

Having tied the Jamaican international down to a three-year contract just over a year ago, Burton is likely to maintain a firm stance regarding selling Burrell.

If a deal were to be completed, the Brewers would potentially secure a lucrative seven-figure sum from Argyle.

The 24-year-old’s goals proved crucial to Burton’s ultimate survival in League One last season. The Brewers secured their third-tier status after a nerve-shredding culmination to the season, staying up by a single point.

With the margins so fine in the EFL, Burton must determine whether the weighty offer from Plymouth is enough to part with their leading scorer from last season.
