Plymouth Argyle attacker Ronan Curtis believes his side need to learn to hold on to leads after losing the initiative in each of their last three outings.
The Pilgrims looked to have recovered from a dreadful opening few months of the campaign in December when they tasted defeat just once in 10 games. This saw them move out of the relegation places, with several players publicly expressing their intent to gatecrash the play-off positions.
Things have taken a turn in recent weeks though. Despite scoring the opening goal in each of their last three, Tom Cleverley’s team have just one point to show from their efforts after a 1-1 draw against Mansfield Town and 2-1 and 4-1 defeats to Stockport County and Lincoln City respectively.
Curtis Keen To Find Solution
Ronan Curtis arrived at Home Park last month after completing a move from League One rivals Port Vale. He shone on his debut, laying on three assists in a 4-3 win over Bristol Rovers in the EFL Trophy.
The 29-year-old has so far been unable to replicate that form in the league in his five appearances thus far, including the heavy defeat against the Imps on Saturday. It was another disappointing performance after an early Bim Pepple strike promised so much.

After suffering a similar fate the week prior, the versatile attacker is keen to find a solution to Plymouth’s recent woes. Speaking to Plymouth Live, he said:
“Last couple of weeks it has been the same outcome really, first half be on top and score first and then concede a couple.
“We just come out second half looking like a completely different team when we have dominated in the first half in the last couple of games. We need to look at ourselves first and foremost as players and then solve the problem. Why is that happening?
“We have played the last couple of weeks two good sides and we have stood toe to toe with them in the first half. We have took the lead in both games and we can be proud of ourselves in that way, but in the same time we can’t show the second half display.”
Injuries A Cause, But Not An Excuse
Plymouth have been rocked in recent weeks by a number of injuries to key players. This includes top scorer Lorent Tolaj, who has been absent for the three recent fixtures in which they’ve dropped points.
Curtis believes that this has had an impact on the team, although those that have stepped in should have utilised the opportunity that has come their way:
“Second half we have been a completely different side. I don’t know what that is down to. We need to get that right obviously, ASAP.
“Take nothing away from the lads, since I have come in they have been amazing. We have done really well but in the last couple of games we have been on the back end of two defeats.
“We have got a few injuries, players that would probably start most games, like Lorent Tolaj, Rallsy (Joe Ralls), BG (Brendan Galloway) as well. It’s tough at the minute on the players but you have got to be ready to step in when you get your chance.”
The Devon-based side return to action this weekend when they travel to Lancashire to take on struggling Blackpool.
