Abu Kamara of Norwich City has reportedly handed in a transfer request at the Canaries amid rumoured interest from fellow Championship clubs, including Portsmouth
Kamara shone on loan at Portsmouth last season with many fans dreaming of the forward’s permanent return.
Various clubs are interested in Kamara
Abu Kamara is believed to have attracted a whole host of suitors following his stunning campaign for Portsmouth last season as the young forward netted eight goals and set up a further ten, helping Pompey end their 12-year absence from the Championship.
BBC Sport reports that Hull City and Portsmouth are two sides in particular who are keen to sign the 21-year-old Norwich City forward this summer, with the Tigers looking to make up for the firepower that the departures of Jaden Philogene and Fabio Carvalho have lost them.
It’s not just domestic clubs interested in Kamara either. Football Insider revealed in July that Belgian side, Anderlecht, have also expressed an interest in the former Portsmouth loanee, although it was believed at the time that Norwich wanted to keep their academy graduate.
Kamara has handed in a transfer request amid interest
It now appears that Abu Kamara has made Norwich’s fight to keep him a whole lot harder after Alex Howell from BBC Sport revealed on X that the forward has now handed in a transfer request to the club that he progressed through the academy at.
The request comes amid widely reported interest in the 21-year-old. Kamara has a year left on his deal at Carrow Road with an option to extend it by a further season.
New Canaries manager, Johannes Hoff Thorup, has had to deal with plenty of transfer sagas already this summer with star winger, Jonathan Rowe, being expelled to the reserves amid interest and Adam Idah also not turning up to pre-season in a bid to force a Celtic move, which has since been completed.
Although it is only the very start of the season, Kamara has struggled for game time so far, only being handed fifteen minutes as a substitute across Norwich’s opening two Championship games.
Would Portsmouth fans love Kamara back at Fratton Park?
The latest update on Kamara’s future will excite Pompey fans further, following the previous frenzy that was caused just a week ago by Portsmouth striker, Christian Saydee, who commented last week, ‘Hurry up…’ on Kamara’s leaving post that was published way back in April.
Kamara then liked Saydee’s comment, leading to mass excitement among Portsmouth fans.
Pompey manager, John Mousinho, has previously been more realistic about his club’s chances of signing Kamara permanently, explaining back in March to Portsmouth News:
“As much as I would love to sign him, his priority should be to be challenging at Norwich next year.
“If Norwich turned around in the summer and said he was available on loan or on a permanent, then I’m sure that’s something we would be very interested in. But it’s completely out of my control”.
Mousinho admitted later in June that if Kamara became available, it’s something Portsmouth would look at, stating to Portsmouth News:
“From our point of view if Abu becomes available, we’ll be there. So we’ll keep in contact and go from there”.
It was widely believed that the vast interest in Kamara and Norwich’s reluctance to sell would place the former loanee outside Portsmouth’s price range, although a transfer request could reshape the market and as previously stated, BBC Sport has reported that following the request Portsmouth are one of the sides who certainly hold an interest.
