Premier League Club Interested In Blackburn Rovers Star

Premier League side Everton are reportedly keeping tabs on Blackburn Rovers star Adam Wharton ahead of a potential move for the 19-year-old, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The youngster has established himself as a key player in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side, starting seven of the club’s opening Championship fixtures. He played 18 times last season scoring two goals and chipping in with an assist from the central midfield position. His impressive performances have alerted Sean Dyche’s Everton, who dispatched scout Steve Davis to watch the player over the last few weeks.

The Toffees have been utilising the Championship as a potential hunting ground for new players after being rebuffed in their interest of Wilfred Gnonto from Leeds United over the summer whilst retaining their desire to sign the player.

This is not the first occasion that the player has attracted interest, with “big six” clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal reportedly keeping tabs on the player last season before opting against making a move for him. Nixon also suggested that Crystal Palace may also be a potential destination for the midfielder.

Everton reportedly attempted to sign Wharton in the summer, but the terms offered which included a swap deal were rejected with the Championship club preferring a straight cash purchase. With the Premier League side once again finding it difficult in the top flight, only taking four points from their opening six games, it may be that they turn to the January window and act on some of their targets to add a much needed spark to the club. However, it is unlikely Blackburn will allow the player to leave for a low fee for such a young player with a high ceiling.

This isn’t going to be a cheap deal for Everton if they want to pull it off, Blackburn know what they’ve got and with such a high ceiling they will be unwilling to let him walk out the door for a small fee. The Premier League side have also had serious money issues, which should ease if the new group completes their take over, however if and when that happens remains to be seen.
