Premier League Giants Set To Recall Preston North End Loanee

Liverpool are set to recall defender Calvin Ramsay from his loan spell at Preston North End, according to an interview by manager Ryan Lowe via the Lancashire Evening Post.

The 20-year-old has had a difficult spell with the Championship side after falling out of favour under Ryan Lowe and has now returned to Liverpool, potentially with another loan move lined up.

Ramsay has made just two appearances for the football club since arriving in the summer, with both of these arriving against Middlesbrough and Queens Park Rangers towards the end of November, but injuries have prevented him from appearing more frequently.

His debut arrived as a half-time substitute during a 4-0 battering against Middlesbrough, before starting Preston’s 2-0 loss against Queens Park Rangers but illness, injuries and some tough fixtures saw the full-back remain out of favour at Deepdale.

SPFL side Aberdeen gave Ramsay his professional debut and he went on to make 39 appearances for the club, contributing to ten goals in the process. This led to a permanent transfer to Premier League giants Liverpool before being loaned out to Preston North End.

Ryan Lowe’s side bounced back after a tricky run of form to beat a strong Bristol City side on Saturday afternoon. Striker Will Keane grabbed a second-half brace to lift the Championship side into 11th, two points outside of the playoff places.

Following the conclusion of the match, Ryan Lowe spoke to the Lancashire Evening Post, where he confirmed Ramsay’s impending exit by stating…

“We’ve got no information on it yet, but Liverpool are calling him back. We are just waiting on them to officially announce it, but he has gone back to Liverpool yeah.”

Writer’s View

Judging by Ryan Lowe’s interview, Ramsay’s lack of game-time wasn’t down to a lack of ability, it was more down to being behind after suffering from injuries and Covid.

I have no doubt that he will return to Liverpool and be on the receiving end of a promising loan move for the remainder of the season. He is a talented footballer but needs a fresh crack in a new opportunity to regain his confidence once again.
