Aston Villa’s Filip Marschall has been given the green light to join MK Dons on loan this month, according to Alan Nixon on his Patreon account.

The 20-year-old shot-stopper has also reportedly had interest from Carlisle United, which he turned down. But he has been given the go-ahead to leave for MK Dons for the rest of the season. The goalkeeper was set to meet and discuss the deal with the Dons, according to reports last week, after featuring on Villa’s bench against Everton.

Who is Filip Marschall?

Filip has been with the Villa youth setup and has embarked on loan moves to Gateshead on two occasions, making 39 appearances for the non-league side.

This season, Marschall has made three starts in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy for Aston Villa against Crawley Town, Charlton Athletic and Sutton United, whilst also being named on the bench all season with one appearance in the Europa Conference League drawing 1-1 to Bosnian side Zrinjski Mostar.

Who are the interested parties?

According to Alan Nixon, the League Two play-off chasers are looking to land the shot-stopper from Aston Villa, due to Craig McGillivray’s expected move into League One with Stevenage leading the race to sign him.

How have the Dons faired this season?

After 25 games this season, they sit seventh in League Two, winning 12 of their games. They currently sit one point from sixth-placed Notts County, having won four of their last five games.

Writer’s View

Marschall and Williamson were linked up at Gateshead before on two occasions in the 2021/22 season and the 2022/23 season.

Overall this would put Mk Dons in the ‘front seat’ to secure the deal if the shot-stopper wanted to work with his former manager, who gave him his first chance in the men’s game after standing out in Aston Villa’s Academy.
