Former Chelsea midfielder and manager Frank Lampard is the top candidate to take over at Championship side Bristol City, as Ross Arnott of ITV reported via Twitter.
The Robins parted company with Nigel Pearson following their defeat to rivals Cardiff City. The side currently sits 15th in the Championship and has recorded just five wins this season.
A number of names have been linked to take over the role at Ashton Gate, and the former England midfielder has emerged as one of the top names to take charge. Another name strongly linked with the job is John Eustace, who was recently in charge at Birmingham City, where Lampard’s former England teammate Wayne Rooney now has the helm.
Lampard has been out of work since he was let go by Premier League side Everton towards the end of last season. He was replaced by Sean Dyche, who guided the Merseyside club to safety. Prior to his spell with Everton, he was in charge of his former club Chelsea. However, he was only in charge for 84 games as the club decided it was time to move on. The 45-year-old was reportedly interested in the Rangers job following the departure of Michael Beale. However, it was reported that he would not be taking over, with Phillipe Clement being the choice they went ahead with.
Bristol City are said to believe that they can challenge for promotion in the Championship, and they reportedly want a progressive manager to take over and lead them to that goal. This is said to have led to the decision to part company with Nigel Pearson.

Lampard looked to be a manager worth his salt during his time at Derby County, as he led them to the playoff final. That earned him the Chelsea job, but things have not worked out for him in the Premier League. With Lampard looking to get his career back on track and the Robins seeking a progressive manager, this could be a perfect match.
