Midweek action saw all twenty Premier League sides in action as there were three derbies, and some crucial results in the battle for the Champions League positions.

The Gunners defeat Fulham:

Arsenal secured three points against Fulham in a result that would be overshadowed by an injury to Gabriel that will see him out for the remainder of the season..

Makeshift striker Mikel Merino once again found the back of the net as he opened the scoring for the hosts in the 37th minute.

Bukayo Saka made an instant impact on his return, heading the ball into the back of the net just seven minutes after entering the pitch.

Rodrigo Muniz got one back in injury time for the visitors, but it was too late to stage a comeback.

Jorgen Strand Larsen struck his tenth Premier League goal of the season, to boost his side’s survival hopes even further.

West Ham came close when a header for Niclas Fulkrug hit the bar, but the Hammers could not find the net and were condemned to another away defeat.

This result ensured that the gap between Vitor Pereira’s side and the relegation zone did not get any tighter.

Forest win again:

A rapid counter-attack that ended in a goal from Anthony Elanga was enough to secure his side the three points against his former side.

The Swede ran the length of the pitch after picking up the ball from a Manchester United corner and slotted the ball low, past Andre Onana.

United had a few late chances as Harry Maguire was brought on to provide more presence in the box for the visitors.

The England international thought he equalised in the final minute of the match as he managed to get a shot off that beat the keeper, but was miraculously cleared off the line by Murillo.

It’s another step closer to Champions League Football for Forest as they travel to Villa Park next.

Ipswich shock Bournemouth:

Ipswich gave themselves a lifeline in their fight for survival as they overcame Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium to get their first win of 2025.

Nathan Broadhead opened the scoring after getting past Dean Huijsen and placing the ball past Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The scoreline was then doubled on the hour mark as Conor Townsend cut the ball back to Liam Delap who blasted his shot into the net to give his side an invaluable two-goal lead.

Seven minutes later, Evanilson halved the deficit for the Cherries but the visitors held out for the three points to ensure the gap between safety and themselves did not grow any larger.

Bournemouth 1 – 2 Ipswich Town

Villa thrash Brighton away from home:

Aston Villa emerged as comfortable winners at the Amex stadium to move above the Seagulls in the Premier League table.

Off the back of his first two goals for the club at the weekend, Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the visitors.

Another loanee in Marco Asensio buried a first-time finish to double his side’s lead before Donyell Malen added a third in the tenth minute of injury time.

Brighton will have the chance to bounce back when they travel to Crystal Palace next. Meanwhile, Aston Villa will host fellow Midlands team Nottingham Forest.

Brighton and Hove Albion 0 – 3 Aston Villa

Manchester City ease past Leicester:

Two first-half goals was enough for Manchester City to see off Leicester as they continue their push for the Champions League positions.

Jack Grealish got his side of to the fast start that they needed, scoring his first Premier League goal since December 2023.

Replacing the injured Erling Haaland, Omar Marmoush found the back of the net on the half-hour mark, with the Egyptian very close to securing a brace as he blasted his shot over the bar.

Leicester had very little to offer in the attack and fell to another defeat, now 12 points adrift from safety.

Manchester City 2 – 0 Leicester City

Newcastle overcome Brentford:

Fresh off the back of their Carabao Cup success, Newcastle defeated Brentford in a result that saw an incredible strike from Sandro Tonali.

Isak opened the scoring for his side on the stroke of half-time which they had been threatening to do for a while.

It would not be an easy win for the Magpies as Bryan Mbuembo netted the equaliser from a penalty conceded by Nick Pope.

Whether it was accidental or not, Sandro Tonali’s attempt caught out Mark Flekken and flew into the net to secure his side all three points.

Next up for Brentford is a home match against Chelsea whilst Newcastle travel to Leicester City.

Newcastle United 2 – 1 Brentford

Last minute goal denies Southampton 3 points:

A late Matheus Franca goal broke the hearts of Saints fans who thought they were witnessing their side win a game for only the third time this season.

Southampton opened the scoring inside twenty minutes as his powerful header into the bottom left corner could not be stopped by Dean Henderson.

Franca was the man to make it ten consecutive away games unbeaten for Palace as he headed his effort past Aaron Ramsdale.

The fate of Southampton is now out of their control as a win from Wolves at the weekend will seal their relegation.

The Saints will travel to face Tottenham Hotspur, whilst Palace will play hosts to their rivals Brighton.

Southampton 1 – 1 Crystal Palace

Liverpool get the better of their rivals:

The solitary goal from Diogo Jota condemned Everton to another loss at Anfield as Liverpool took another giant leap towards the Premier League title.

There was some controversy in this game, however, as James Tarkowski put in a challenge on Mac Allister that saw him win the ball but also follow through on the Argentinian’s leg.

There was a VAR check but it was determined that the initial decision of a yellow card was sufficient and the game continued.

Beto had a goal disallowed in the opening twenty minutes and then struck the post less than fifteen minutes later, but failed to find the back of the net.

Liverpool 1 – 0 Everton

Uninspiring Spurs defeated by Chelsea:

Tottenham’s torrid record at Stamford Bridge worsened as a goal from Enzo Fernandez got Chelsea back into the top four.

Palmer got his first goal involvement since January assisting Fernandez’s headed goal as he charged into the box – a common theme recently under Maresca.

Caicedo thought he doubled his side’s lead via a fantastic first-time strike but it was deemed that Levi Colwill was offside in the build-up.

Tottenham also had an impressive strike disallowed when Sarr’s goal got ruled out for a foul committed on Caicedo.

There would be no change to the scoreline and the Blues would emerge victorious once again as Ange Postecoglou fails to take any points from the fixture once more.

Chelsea 1 – 0 Tottenham Hotspur
