Relegation threatened Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers are said to be eyeing up a move for Millwall centre-back Japhet Tanganga, according to reports.

The 25-year-old defender is a fan favourite at The Den. He joined Millwall in January last year under Joe Edwards on loan from Tottenham and then signed a permanent deal in South London on a free transfer when his Spurs contract expired in the summer.

Tanganga has been a rock at the heart of Millwall’s defence since the start of the season. Evidently, his presence in the side is predominant, with Millwall not conceding more than one goal in 18 out of 19 games he has featured in since the start of the season. Millwall have played three league games without Tanganga this season due to suspension, and in those three games they have conceded eight goals altogether and not won any of them.

Wolves have had an outstanding start to life under new head coach Vitor Pereira, with two wins from three games against Leicester City & Manchester United. The West Midlands side also picked up a 2-2 draw at the hands of Ange Postecoglu’s Tottenham Hotspur. Following this magnificent start, the Portuguese coach will be wanting to continue that heading into the new year by adding further talent to his ranks, and Japhet Tanganga certainly fits that bill.

According to Express Sport, there is an agreement in place between Tanganga and Millwall for the club to ‘at least consider Premier League interest’.

It will undoubtedly take a big fee for Millwall to allow Japhet Tanganga to leave and join Wolves once the January window opens on New Years Day, but with Wolves desperate to avoid the drop, they may accept the demands of the Lions.

Millwall fans will be hoping the club aren’t forced to sell Tanganga and that they can enjoy his top-class performances down The Den for at least another half of a season.
