The six English clubs remaining in European competition have learned their Round of 16 opponents as well as their potential paths to the finals as the draws for all three competitions took place on Friday.
Arsenal, Aston Villa and Liverpool remain in the Champions League after all three finished in the top eight of the league phase, with Liverpool finishing top of the table. There were also two other mouth watering clashes.
Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur remain in the Europa League- and could meet in the final. Meanwhile, Chelsea topped the Conference League table after winning all six of their league phase matches.
Champions League
Liverpool claimed seven wins during the league phase, seeing them top the table. Next up for them is a clash with French giants Paris Saint-Germain. The first leg will be at the Parc des Princes on 4th/5th of March, with the return leg at Anfield two weeks later.
Aston Villa have been handed a reunion with Belgian side Club Brugge. The two sides met on match day four, with Brugge claiming a 1-0 win thanks to a penalty from Hans Vanaken. The winners will face PSG or Liverpool in the Quarter Finals.
Arsenal, who won all four home games in the league phase, will face Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. The sides met in the Europa League two seasons ago, with both sides winning the home game.
The winners will face Spanish opposition in the Quarter Finals- the winners of a clash between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid.
As well as the Madrid derby, the draw also threw up a mouthwatering clash between German giants Bayern Munich and Bayer Leverkusen, with Borussia Dortmund and Barcelona also in the opposite half of the draw to the English trio.
Europa League
Manchester United finished third and unbeaten in the league phase, drawing their first three matches but winning the next five. They will next face Real Sociedad, with the first leg taking place in Spain on 6 March, with the return at Old Trafford a week later.
The two sides faced each other in the last 32 of this competition in 2021, with United winning the first leg in Spain 4-0, before a 0-0 draw in the return leg. The winners will face Romanians FCSB or French side Lyon in the Quarter Finals.
Tottenham Hotspur finished just behind United in fourth. Ange Postecoglu’s side will face a trip to the Netherlands to face AZ Alkmaar in the Round of 16. They faced each other on Matchday 3 in October, with Richarlison giving Spurs a 1-0 win.
The winners will face either another Dutch side in Ajax, or 2022 winners Eintracht Frankfurt. Scottish side Rangers will face Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. Rangers have already faced both English clubs in this competition this season.
Conference League
Chelsea eased to top spot in the league phase, becoming the only side in all three competitions to reach the knockout stages with a 100% record. They scored 26 goals in their six matches, including an 8-0 win over Armenian side Noah on Matchday three.
In the Round of 16 they will face Danish side FC Copenhagen, with the first leg in Denmark on 6 March and the return at Stamford Bridge a week later.
The two sides last met in the 2010/11 Champions League. A Nicolas Anelka brace gave Chelsea a 2-0 win in the first leg, before a goalless draw in the return.
The winners of that tie will face either Norwegian side Molde or Polish side Legia Warsaw in the Quarter Finals. Poland, where the final will take place on 28 May, is the only nation with two sides remaining in this season’s competition.
Chelsea are the favourites to win this season’s Conference League, which is guaranteed to see a fourth different winner in the four seasons since the competition’s inception in 2021/22. Roma won the inaugural title, followed by West Ham United. Olympiakos won the trophy last season.
