Blackburn Rovers are awaiting the arrival of Nottingham Forest striker, who will have a medical ahead of a move to the club.
Emmanuel Dennis is on his way to Blackburn ahead of a move that will see the striker drop from the Premier League to the Championship to get more minutes.
Dennis hasn’t featured in the league for Champions League chasing Forest this season, leading to rumours about his future. Blackburn weren’t the only Championship side interested in Dennis, but it appears they are going to win the race for him.
Dennis to Blackburn Rovers
With just a few hours left of the transfer window, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed on his X the two sides have agreed a deal.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international will make his way to Lancashire for a medical. As long as there are no hiccups with that, he’ll join the Championship side.
Fabrizio, nor any other publication, have confirmed if the deal is a loan or permanent. However, it’s likely given the proximity to the deadline means it will be a loan until the end of the season.
Can Blackburn Rovers Get Him Firing Again?
Dennis hasn’t played any senior minutes this season for Nottingham Forest. The striker last featured at senior level in the Championship for Watford.
He spent the second half of the season with the Hornets – scoring four goals in 17 appearances. In those games, he had 0.6 shots on target per game and received an average Sofascore rating of 6.78.
Dennis spent the first half of last season on loan in Turkey with Başakşehir FK. The Nigerian played just eight games, failing to register a goal or assist during his time with the club.
If the move to Ewood Park is confirmed, John Eustace will likely be hoping to see Dennis return to his best goal scoring form. Just three years ago, Dennis scored 10 goals in 33 games for Watford in the Premier League.
Is This a Good Move?
For Dennis, the move offers a chance to reignite his career after it has stagnated in recent years. Since his 10-goal season in the Premier League, Dennis has managed to score just six goals. If he can get his confidence back, he could easily return to that level.
As for Blackburn Rovers, they’re fifth in the league on 45 points. They will be hoping to carry on their fine form and finish the season with the chance of returning to the Premier League through the play-offs.
By adding a player like Dennis, with Premier League and international experience, they are only boosting their promotion hopes.
If Eustace can get him back to his goal scoring best, it could be a clever move for Rovers.
