Premier League team of the season so far after the completion of 19 game weeks. Marking the halfway point of the season, let’s have a look at a potential team of the season so far.
Robin Roefs- Sunderland
Roefs has come into the Premier League with newly promoted Sunderland and has taken the league by storm.
He has kept seven clean sheets this season, and only Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle have kept more. Roefs is a large reason why Sunderland are sitting in the strong league position they are in. He has made a total of 67 saves in the 19 games he has played and has made at least four saves in a game 11 times this year.
Jurrien Timber- Arsenal
Timber has been part of the incredible Arsenal defence, which has set them apart at the top of the table. They have kept nine clean sheets, and the Dutch right-back has been a crucial part of how Arsenal defend and attack
Arsenal have conceded just 12 goals in their 19 games and have only conceded two goals in one game. This game against Aston Villa saw Timber playing out of position at centre-back due to their injury crisis in that position.
In the 18 games he has played, he has scored twice and provided three assists. Of all defenders in the Premier League, only two have taken more shots than him.
Gabriel- Arsenal
If Gabriel continues his form from the first half of the season, he will be in with a good chance of winning player of the year. Like Timber, he has been key to Arsenal’s nine clean sheets this season.
He missed six games due to injury. In the 13 games he played in, Arsenal have kept seven clean sheets (54%) and in the other six games they kept two (33%).
Gabriel’s threat from set pieces has been really important to Arsenal’s attacking, and he has scored two goals and assisted two. One of his goals was a crucial last-minute winner over Newcastle and his assist against Fulham was for the only goal of the game.
Marc Guehi- Crystal Palace
Guehi faced speculation of a summer move to Liverpool and was reportedly just moments away from a move on deadline day.
The Palace man has captained his team to six clean sheets, and he has also scored two and provided two assists.
Despite being winless in the last four games, Palace still sit in the top half of the table, as well as balancing their first European campaign in the Europa Conference League.
Marc Cucurella- Chelsea
Left-back has been a position that hasn’t had many standouts so far this season, but one who has been consistently strong is Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella.
He has played 18 games in the Premier League this season, and while his two assists aren’t the most this season, his solidity has been a huge reason why Chelsea have kept eight clean sheets. These eight clean sheets are just one less than Arsenal and Manchester City, and only three less than Chelsea managed in all of last season.
Declan Rice- Arsenal
Rice has taken his game to another level in the calendar year of 2025. While he has only been attributed with two assists by Opta in the Premier League, he has been given a total of seven fantasy assists. This reflects his importance through set pieces for fantasy games like FPL. These set pieces may take a touch on the way to their destination and therefore don’t get credited as pure assists.
Granit Xhaka- Sunderland
Grant Xhaka left the Premier League in 2023, and it was thought at that point he wouldn’t be seen again in the league.
He went to Bayer Leverkusen, had an invincible season, stayed one more year and then returned to Sunderland.
The former Arsenal captain has been crucial to Sunderland’s success, which sees them sitting seventh in the league just one point behind Manchester United and Chelsea.
Bruno Fernandes- Manchester United
Manchester United have had a very mixed start to the season, having beaten the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea, but dropping points against the worst teams in the league.
Bruno Fernandes has scored five and assisted seven goals, all while playing deeper in Ruben Amorim’s 3-4-3 system and trying to integrate with a new front three of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko.
He went on an incredibly effective run from mid-November to mid-December, when he scored three goals and provided seven assists in just nine games.
His deeper role has also meant greater defensive responsibility within the Manchester United team this year.
Phil Foden- Manchester City
Foden has been a little patchy. He had a quiet start to the year and has been quiet after his purple patch. In total, he has scored seven goals and provided two assists. However, six of those goals and one of the assists came in the space of four games.
The England International has, however, created at least two chances for Manchester City in nine games this season and has taken at least two shots in 13 of his 17 matches this season.
Antoine Semenyo- Bournemouth
Semenyo has had such a strong start to the season that he is being heavily linked to a transfer move to all of the top Premier League clubs, and a move to Manchester City is expected early in the window.
He has scored nine goals and provided three assists so far this season. Only Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago have scored more so far this season.
His start to the season was particularly strong, and he was a key reason why Bournemouth were sitting in the Top 4 of the table for a long period of the season.
In the first seven games of the season, he had scored six goals and provided three assists.
Erling Haaland- Manchester City
Erling Haaland is on track to break his own record for most goals in a single Premier League season. Currently, he has scored 19 goals in 19 games, and his record is 36 goals.
Haaland is still waiting for his first hat-trick of the season, but has scored a brace in seven games this year.
Unbelievably, there is still room for improvement, as Haaland has missed 18 big chances and failed to score in seven games, including three of the four games he has played against newly promoted sides.
