Preston North End are reportedly exploring a deal to sign Icelandic striker Andri Gudjohnsen from Belgian club Genk.

The 23-year-old is the son of former Chelsea and Bolton Wanderers striker Eidur Gudjohnsen.

Genk values Gudjohnsen at £2.5m, having previously resisted interest in the Iceland international from clubs in Turkey.

Paul Heckingbottom is keen to add more bite to his attacking armoury, to provide support for last season’s second top scorer, Milutin Osmajic.

Preston North End Target International Striker

Preston found themselves dragged into an unexpected relegation battle at the end of the last campaign. For that reason, senior figures at Deepdale are on red alert to preserve their proud Championship status.

Montenegro international Osmajic rescued a credible point away at QPR on the opening day, but now Preston wants further offensive firepower.

According to Alan Nixon via his Patreon, a player they are likely to pursue in the coming days is Andri Gudjohnsen.

How Has He Fared So far?

Gudjohnsen was born and raised in London during his father’s highly successful spell at Stamford Bridge.

An out-and-out centre forward, he has made 34 caps for Iceland, scoring nine times for his country.

In June, he hit the headlines for scoring in a famous 3-1 Iceland win at Hampden Park against Scotland.

Having spent time in the Barcelona and Real Madrid youth set-ups, he learnt his trade from the very best at a young age.

He was a regular starter for Genk in the Juniper Pro League last season, where he netted five goals.

Standing at 6 ft 2 in tall, Gudjohnsen possesses a fearsome aerial ability in both penalty areas, an attribute well-suited to the EFL Championship.

Preston Boss Determined to Forge Competitive Squad

Having seen last season’s 12-goal striker Emil Riis Jakobsen leave for Bristol City in the summer, Paul Heckingbottom is desperate to acquire a new goal threat.

The Dane created an effective partnership with the powerful Osmajic for the Lilywhites, a duo they are keen to recreate.

Preston may lean on the presence of Stefan Teitur Thordarson as they attempt to lure Gudjohnsen to Lancashire. The Genk man is said to be keen on a move to England, and may be tempted to link up with his compatriot.

Coming from a family that boasts generations worth of professional football talent, Gudjohnsen certainly has the pedigree to become a fan favourite at Deepdale.
