Championship side Preston North End are plotting a return for Leicester City goalkeeper Daniel Iversen, the former Danish international who played at Deepdale in two previous loan spells.
The goalkeeper has suffered a difficult two years, having made only 36 appearances since returning to Leicester City from Preston in 2022, struggling for regular games at The King Power and yet to play a minute this season.
Now according to reports from Alan Nixon, Iversen is being targeted for a return to Preston North End.
An ‘Old Hero’s’ Return To Preston
Iversen enjoyed the most regular first-team football of his career in Preston North End’s colours, making 71 appearances for the club across two different loan spells.
First moving to Deepdale on loan from Leicester City in January 2021, the Dane was an instant feature between the sticks for the Lilywhites, making 23 appearances for the remainder of the season before joining the club for the following campaign where he started all but one of their Championship outings.
Returning to his parent club the following season appeared a logical step up, but the 27-year-old was under immediate pressure making 12 appearances before Leicester was relegated from the Premier League in 2023.
Not in Enzo Maresca’s plans the following season, Iversen was loaned out to fellow Championship side Stoke City.
The current campaign has proved difficult for the shot-stopper, yet to play a minute and solely featuring from the bench it appears a move may be wise at this stage of his career.
Therefore, a move to a club where he enjoyed the most first-team football of his career may make sense.
With current shot-stopper Freddie Woodman’s deal at Deepdale coming to an end, the only stumbling block is finances, with the report stating that Iversen’s wages could “test” Preston but a return for the former player could be a priority for the Lancashire club.
A move that makes sense for Preston and player
With plenty of work yet to take place before a deal could occur, a return to Preston could be a perfect step in the Dane’s career.
Having struggled for game time at Leicester City since coming through the U23s in 2016, it may be clear that Iversen is not in the plans at the King Power.
Entering the prime years of his career and potentially available to leave the King Power in the summer, a move to Preston could prove perfect for Iversen to rediscover first-team football.
With first team goalkeeper Freddie Woodman’s deal at Deepdale it would be no surprise to see Preston move into the market for a new number one this summer.
