Sheffield United have set the price Leeds United will need to meet if they want to sign Gustavo Hamer before the window closes.

Promotion hopefuls Leeds United are hoping to lure Hamer away from promotion and Yorkshire rivals, Sheffield United.

With the window almost closed, Leeds have already made one offer for Hamer which was rejected according to The Star. Sheffield United boss told the media ahead of their clash with Barnsley in the League Cup that one offer for a player was a “million miles away”.

What’s the latest Hamer update?

Alan Nixon reported on his Patreon that the Blades have set a price of £18million on Hamer. This is £5 million more than Leeds United offered for him on Monday.

After their first offer was rejected, Adam Pope reported that Leeds were unlikely to go back in for Hamer. With a price tag now set for Hamer, and with Leeds being just £5 million shy, it’s unknown whether they’ll still attempt to sign Hamer before the window closes.

How did Hamer perform last season?

Hamer featured heavily for Sheffield United last season as they were relegated from the Premier League. He played 36 times in the league, starting 34 of those games.

As part of a side that struggled, Hamer received a Sofascore rating of 6.92, the fourth highest in their squad. In front of the goal, he’ll likely be disappointed with his numbers, scoring four goals, having 1.4 shots per game, and 0.4 shots on target per game.

Hamer did show his qualities as a playmaker in the Premier League. He picked up six assists, the most of any Sheffield United player, and had an average of two key passes a game.

Would this be a good move for Leeds United?

Leeds United do have money to spend after cashing in on some of their key players after missing out on promotion last season. Archie Gray, Georginio Rutter, Luis Sinisterra, and Crysencio Summerville left Elland Road this summer for big money.

Despite all the money incoming, Leeds are yet to spend big on attackers to replace the likes of Rutter or Summerville. Signing Hamer who already had two goals and one assist in the Championship this season, could be a great signing for them.

They didn’t start the season amazing, drawing their opening two games. However, a win against Sheffield Wednesday has pushed them up the table and could be the kickstart they needed. Adding a player of Hamer’s quality now could just add to the positive momentum.
