Real Madrid welcome Manchester City back to the Santiago Bernabeu having won the first leg in Manchester 3-2 last week. Los Blancos came from behind twice to win the game. Man City felt they had the game won when Erling Haaland slotted his penalty in the 80th minute. Former Man City youth player Brahim Diaz and Jude Bellingham scored in the 86th and 92nd minute to bring a lead in the tie back to Spain.

The winner of this tie will be rewarded with a game against either Athletico Madrid or Bayer Leverkusen, who finished fifth and sixth in the league phase of the competition.

Man City come into the game off the back of an incredible 4-0 victory over Newcastle, where Omar Marmoush scored his first career hattrick. On the other hand, Real Madrid conceded from a 58th-minute penalty to draw 1-1 away to Osasuna.

  • Jude Bellingham has scored more Champions League goals against Man City (three) than he has against any other side. Only Frank Lampard has scored three Champions League goals against English opposition (Liverpool) as an England player.
  • Real Madrid’s only home defeat to Real Madrid came in 2020 when they lost 2-1 in the round of 16.

Team Statistics

  • In total Real Madrid have scored 14 goals in their last four Champions League games, while Man City have conceded 17 goals in their previous six matches in the competition.
  • This is the 40th time Real Madrid have been carrying a lead from the away first leg into the second. In the previous 39, they have advanced 37 times. Man City on the other hand, are coming into a second leg behind for the fifth time. They have gone out on each occasion.
  • Real Madrid have only failed to score in one of their last 78 Champions League home games, dating back to 2018. If they score Man City would be required to score two to reach extra time.

Player statistics

  • In Mbappe’s last eight games in league and Europe, he has scored nine goals. In total, he has scored 17 goals in 22 La Liga games but only four in his nine Champions League games.
  • Erling Haaland is currently on 49 Champions League goals. A goal in this game following his brace in the first leg would make him the youngest player to reach 50 Champions League goals. He could also become the first player to score 50 Champions League goals in less than 50 games.
  • Vinicius Jr’s assist against Man City was his only goal involvement in the last four games. It is the first time this season he has gone four games or more without a goal.
