Rotherham United have confirmed the loan signing of Oxford United midfielder, Louie Sibley, until the end of the season.
The 23-year-old joins the League One side from Championship side Oxford United, with the likely ambition of helping Rotherham United return to the second tier at the first time of asking.
The deal was confirmed by Rotherham United today on their official website, stating the deal is subject to EFL and FA ratification.
How’s Sibley Performed in Recent Years?
Sibley joined Oxford United at the start of this season, from fellow League One promotion side Derby County.
In his debut season for Oxford United, Sibley played 11 games in the Championship, starting one of those games and averaging just 15 minutes per game.
In those 11 games, he received a Sofascore average rating of 6.58. Sibley contributed with one goal for Oxford as they’ve made a better-than-expected start to the Championship.
Last season, Sibley played in League One for Derby County, helping them to promotion back to the Championship.
The midfielder appeared 38 times, starting 23 games in total. Sibley had six goal contributions, three assists and three goals, receiving an average Sofascore rating of 6.82.
How Are Rotherham United Doing This Season?
After a questionable start to their League One season, Rotherham United have started to climb the lead and are looking towards the play-offs. They’re seven points off Stockport County in 6th but have plenty of games left to make up points.
At the start of the season, Steve Evans appeared to have assembled a squad capable of competing for the top two. Sadly, for Evans, his team have struggled, but he’ll likely be hoping a few new additions, including Sibley, will see his side quickly climb the table.
Is Sibley the Man Rotherham United Needs? – Opinion
Rotherham United are playing below expectations this season, many expected they would be competing with the likes of Birmingham City. Now, they appear to have found their form heading into the second half of the season.
Sibley could be just the addition they need to help push them forward. Joe Powell has been the standout player for the Millers according to Sofascore, receiving an average rating of 7.18 – the highest of any Rotherham player. Powell’s also grabbed four assists, joint top with Sam Nombe.
Sibley’s got experience getting out of this league with Derby County, and that experience could be crucial for the Millers this season.
