Rotherham United manager Matt Hamshaw has shared his joy about his squad ahead of their clash with Cardiff City.
The Millers face the table-topping Welsh side on the back of back-to-back wins that have taken them 21st and close to exiting the drop zone.
The South Yorkshire side are actually three games unbeaten after a run of 10 games without a win in the league.
That horrific stretch left them fearing for their safety in League One. However, thanks to a productive January transfer window, the Millers are now looking up the table, with safety in their own hands.
Their positive January window has been recognised by boss Hamshaw, who commented on the positive feeling he gets seeing the squad available to him.
Hamshaw Excited by What He’s Seen
Speaking to the Rotherham Advertiser, Hamshaw discussed how he felt like the Millers were finally where he wanted them to be:
“I don’t want to kind of go too early on this, but this week it’s just felt like the football club that I want it to be.
“I‘ve been waiting for that from the day that I got in here.
“We’ve got competition for places, it feels like a club again”
That feel-good feeling is in part thanks to the recruitment in January, as well as the return of some players from injury.
Marvin Kaleta is one player who will be back for the South Yorkshire side against Cardiff City. Rotherham boss Hamshaw said simply, “he’s back”, after he missed their 4-0 victory over Exeter City.
New Signings Making an Instant Impact for Rotherham United
The Millers made six signings in January in a bid to help drag them out of the relegation zone.
Four joined on deadline day. Duncan Watmore, Gabriele Biancheri, Lino Sousa, and Brandon Cover all made the move to Rotherham and will be available for selection at the New York stadium.
22-year-old Emmanuel Adegboyega joined from Norwich City and has made two substitute appearances.
The standout is 17-year-old Harry Gray, who joined on loan from Leeds United. He’s played four games, scoring twice, both in their last two games.
In his first four games, he’s averaged 1.3 shots per game and 1.3 shots on target per game.
It’s his first experience of senior football, but he looks like someone Hamshaw could rely on to drag the Millers up the table.
