Following their relegation from the Championship Rotherham United have been busy added to their squad in Steve Evan’s first transfer window since his return. Now, according to reports they have handed a trial to former Exeter City midfielder Harry Kite, after the player departed the club at the end of the season.
The 24-year-old was most recently with the Grecians, having progressed through their youth ranks joining the senior team in 2018. He enjoyed loan spells at Dorchester and Taunton Town in non-league before becoming part of the first team set up.
Kite has made 102 appearances, contributing seven goals and two assists and played 18 times in the club’s League Two promotion winning season.
He was one of seven names released by the club including;
Gary Woods
Alex Hartridge
Harry Kite
Kyle Taylor
James Scott
Joe O’Connor
Harrison King
Now according to journalist Pete O’Rourke he is on trial at Steve Evans’ Rotherham.
Straight back up the aim for Rotherham United?
Rotherham United and Steve Evans both have a track record of gaining promotion, making his return a match made in heaven. However, doing so will not be as easy as it could have been with League One proving to be a tough and competitive league.
The three relegated Championship sides have all spent well with the aim of ensuring their stay in the third tier is short, whilst “bridesmaids” Bolton Wanderers, who missed out on promotion last season will be hoping to go again. Sides such as Charlton Athletic have made their intentions clear, as have the promoted duo of Wrexham and Stockport.
Steve Evans’ task is a big one but with the additions of some strong and powerful players, who have experience of winning such as Sean Raggett, Joe Rafferty and former League One top scorer Jonson Clarke-Harris they have put themselves in the best possible position.
