Rotherham United are targeting Fleetwood Town duo Harry Graydon and Brendan Wiredu. The duo were frequent inclusions in the Cods side during the 2024-25 EFL League Two season.
The duo would become the Miller’s second and third signings of the summer window of the window. This is because of the arrival of Kian Spence earlier this week following the expiry of his contract with Barrow.
Rotherham United Target Graydon and Wiredu
Rotherham United are looking to bring striker Harry Graydon and midfielder Brendan Wiredu to South Yorkshire. This comes in a time of essential summer recruitment for the New York stadium outfit.
The Millers have had a bid for Brendan Wiredu turned down according to reports. However, the South Yorkshire side are expected to return with a second bid. Furthermore, they are looking to include Graydon in a potential double deal for a substantial fee.
This article comes following a report from journalist Alan Nixon who broke the news of Rotherham’s interest early on Sunday morning. With Nixon a trusted source, this deal could have serious potential.
Graydon and Wiredu’s 2024-25 Season
Both Graydon and Wiredu were frequent inclusions during Fleetwood’s 2024-25 EFL League Two season playing 34 games each.
Firstly, Graydon was able to have his best season in a Fleetwood shirt last season. This is because he was able to score nine goals whilst assisting on seven occasions during his 34 games.
Furthermore, he was able to be a constant presence in the opposition box through his 144 touches in opposition boxes. As well as this, the 26 year old was able to create 27 chances whilst completing 33 dribbles. This shows that when the Irishman had the ball, he was able to make the most of it and was able to make a positive impact on the Cods’ gameplay.
Secondly, Wiredu was able to make an impact from his central position making 40 tackles whilst winning 64.2% of his duels. This, combined with his two goals during the campaign and the 15 chances he was able to create, made him an arguably good all-round player during the season.
However, even with the positive aspects of both players, there are areas the duo could improve on. For Graydon, this is his passing accuracy – which is 57.7%. But, for Wiredu, it arguably is his dribble success which stands at 48.9%. As a striker and midfielder, these attributes are essential and must be improved – especially if they are going to make the step up to EFL League One.
How Do They Fit Into Rotherham United’s System?
During the 2024-25 EFL League One side, we saw that Rotherham United primarily played in a 3-4-1-2 formation. This slightly differs from Fleetwood’s 3-5-2 system.
However, in ways, we can see that Graydon’s role would remain largely unchanged as he would be playing in a front 2. Similarly, we would see that Wiredu’s role would also not change as he had experience playing in a back three last season.
Potentially Good Additions?
If Rotherham United were to sign Ryan Graydon and Brendan Wiredu, they would be getting a duo that have had experience across both EFL League One and EFL League Two. Furthermore, they would be getting a duo that still have the potential to grow.
As well as this, they would be getting two players that still have a long time in their playing careers. This is because Graydon is only 26 years old and Wiredu is only 25 years old.
With this being considered and with the talent they would bring, the duo may be just the thing Rotherham need to increase the depth and quality of their squad.
