One of Sheffield United’s star players has been tipped for a move away from South Yorkshire before the end of the transfer window.
The Blades haven’t had the start to the Championship season that many fans expected. They are currently at the bottom of the league with zero points.
It’s a start that has put into question the future of Ruben Selles, who took over from Chris Wilder after they lost out in the play-off final last season.
Selles has been busy in the window, making improvements to his side. However, they have lost some of their key players, namely Vini Souza. Now, they could be about to lose another star in Gustavo Hamer.
Gustavo Hamer Attracts Interest from PSV
Football League World shared that Hamer is being targeted by PSV in the Netherlands. A deal for Hamer will only happen if Joey Veerman joins Brentford before the end of the window.
PSV have been linked with Hamer before, but a deal never came to fruition, and he remained at Bramall Lane.
The Dutch window shuts after the English window, which could pose a problem for the deal, because Sheffield United wouldn’t have any time to sort a replacement out if the English window has already closed.
How Did Hamer Perform for Sheffield United Last Season?
Last season, Hamer was Sheffield United’s top performer according to Sofascore’s average ratings. Hamer received an average rating of 7.28 in the Championship.
The midfielder finished the season with the most goal contributions for the Blades. His 16 in total, nine assists and seven goals, show how crucial he was to Wilder’s side last season.
Hamer was a constant threat for Sheffield United. He had 2.2 shots and 0.7 shots on target per game. The 28-year-old was also a key part creatively. Hamer ended the season with 11 big chances created and 1.8 key passes per game.
This season, Hamer has yet to register a goal or assist, but he has still been a key player. He’s received an average rating of 7.03 for his performances in the league so far.
How Big a Loss Would Hamer Be?
Losing a player of Hamer’s quality would impact any side, especially a side struggling at the moment. His creativity could help spark a turnaround in their season and help them move up the table and back towards the play-offs, like many expected.
Speaking about Hamer potentially leaving the clubs after his side’s defeat to Middlesbrough, Selles told The Star:
“As far as I know, there is nothing there. But as I always told you, I can’t predict the future. I don’t know what’s going to happen in the next 48 hours.”
Hamer’s future is likely one to keep a close eye on as the end of the window nears.
