Sheffield United’s Player of the Season Targeted By Top Flight Duo

Sheffield United midfielder Gustavo Hamer is reportedly wanted by two Premier League clubs, following an impressive season in the Championship.

The 27-year-old made 41 appearances in the 2024/25 campaign, whilst also registering 16 goal contributions.

Hamer is currently contracted to the Blades until June 30th 2027, so a fee would be required if he were to depart.

Gustavo Hamer on the move from Sheffield United?

According to a report from TalkSport, Leeds United and Everton are amongst the clubs interested in the Dutch midfielder, as they both look to bolster their squads for the 2025/26 season.

Hamer has had experience playing in the Premier League before, appearing 38 times with ten goal contributions during his 2023/24 campaign.

Despite being relegated after finishing 20th with Sheffield United, the 27 year-old certainly displayed that he was more than capable to compete with the very best in England’s top division.

When speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, The Whites’ chairman, Paraag Marathe, highlighted his excitement going into the summer transfer market as he said:

“Together we are going to build the best squad we can, with every penny we are allowed to spend to be competitive in the Premier League.

“We are going to attack the transfer market and it’s something I’m really excited about.”

With this information taken into account, it’s safe to say that Chris Wilder has a tough task ahead if he wishes to keep Hamer at Bramall Lane.

How did Gustavo Hamer fare at Sheffield United?

Since signing from Coventry City in 2023, Hamer has been very impressive, providing many memorable moments at Bramall Lane.

Whilst having the ability to unlock the opposition defence with a clever pass, he has also been able to possess the composure to find the back of the net in crucial moments.

Statistics from Fotmob emphasise the attacking threat which the Dutch midfielder provided throughout the 2024/25 campaign, leading Sheffield United’s charts for chances created and expected assists per 90 minutes.

Despite falling short of the overall aim to clinch promotion at the club, Gustavo Hamer was named as Player of the Season in the Championship.

Where does this leave Sheffield United?

With the heavy prospect of Hamer leaving, Chris Wilder may have to look deeper in his squad to fill the void.

This may give the opportunity to players like Andre Brooks and Callum O’Hare to step up and make a big impact next season.

As a fee would be required for Hamer’s departure, Wilder could look to use the money in the transfer market. This could help boost his attacking options in what is shaping up to be a big season for the Blades.
